FOX Sports broadcaster Jamie Little generated a fierce wave of backlash from NASCAR<\/a> fans after making an awkward on-air blunder.<\/p>\n

Since stepping into a greater role of play-by-play announcer for the Craftsman Truck Series, Little<\/a> has made a conscious effort to broaden NASCAR\u2019s audience by explaining the basics of the sport while covering races.<\/p>\n

Her method has drawn the ire of some viewers<\/a>, however, with droves of disgruntled fans particularly slamming her call of Tyler Ankrum’s thrilling win in the Black’s Tire 200<\/a> at Rockingham Speedway.<\/p>\n

Most recently, Little faced criticism for asking a question during the Ecosave 250 that appeared to have an obvious answer. Last Friday, Will Rodgers was feeling under the weather and in danger of needing a replacement.<\/p>\n

As reserve driver Parker Kligerman readied himself to pilot the No. 20 Chevrolet if needed, Little questioned why Young\u2019s Motorsports would bother continuing to compete in the event without Rodgers.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo why would you do this? If your driver is not feeling good, he\u2019s going to get out,\u201d she said to\u00a0Joey Logano. \u201cWhy would you ask another driver to hop into it and finish it?\u201d<\/p>\n

Guest analyst Logano seemed confused as to why Little asked such a thing, replying: \u201cSomeone\u2019s gotta finish the race, right?\u201d<\/p>\n

Taking to social media, droves of viewers blasted Little for the “embarrassing” question. \u201cWait is this Jamie? She’s been around long enough, she knows the answer. That’s just a terrible setup question to have them talk about it,\u201d one X user wrote.<\/p>\n

Another added: \u201cI don’t know if she’s just playing Devil’s advocate, but you can hear the disbelief in Logano’s voice as he answers her embarrassing question. I’m convinced the people running these broadcasts purposely keep her in the booth to spite fans. It really seems like they hate the fans.\u201d<\/p>\n

A third chimed in, \u201cMy goodness, what was FOX thinking when they made her a play by play announcer? She\u2019s so much better on pit road. Let her stay in what she\u2019s a natural in. Or at least let the guy that does play by play for ARCA do this because he actually has potential.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking to Sports Illustrated\u2019s Mark Beech<\/a> back in June, Little shed light on the challenges that come with transitioning from pit reporting to play-by-play commentary. \u201cPit reporting and play-by-play are two very different skill sets,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went into the booth with the Arca Menards series in 2021, and I remember thinking, Well, I\u2019m going to cover it like I do as a pit reporter. But it\u2019s so different. You\u2019re the traffic control cop, you\u2019re talking the whole time. As a pit reporter, you\u2019re doing interviews, but then you\u2019re doing 30-second updates and reports throughout a race. You\u2019re not talking the whole time. Play-by-play is a lot.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo it\u2019s very different. Pit reporting, that\u2019s always been my jam. I hope that it\u2019s always part of my life. I never want to give up pit reporting on Sundays. It\u2019s interacting with the people. It\u2019s those relationships that you built over all those years. It\u2019s taking that breaking news, and you\u2019re telling the stories. Nobody\u2019s telling me what to say. I love that.
