HAMMONTON, N.J. (WPVI) — It took nearly 100 firefighters from 19 volunteer companies to get a massive fire under control overnight at Frog Rock Golf and Country Club in Hammonton<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The main building, which served as a restaurant, wedding venue, and banquet hall, has been destroyed.<\/p>\n

Chopper 6 was over the scene Tuesday morning, providing a clear view of the destruction left behind.<\/p>\n

Crews were called around 2:40 a.m. for a reported explosion. The fire chief says neighbors described hearing a loud boom that woke them up.<\/p>\n

The fire spread to nearby greens, woods, and even the golf carts.<\/p>\n

Chief Sean Macri says the fire got a big head start on them. “It could be because some of the building is very open, you have ballrooms and banquet halls, and once you get that open space it’s kind off to the races,” he said.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, no one was inside at the time.<\/p>\n

Rocky Colasurdo, 86, bought the land 54 years ago, and has worked here seven days a week ever since, doing practically every job you can think of — from serving at the restaurant to mowing the grass.<\/p>\n

“My whole life. My whole life went through my mind,” Colasurdo recalled thinking this morning when he heard about the fire.<\/p>\n

Colasurdo says he’ll leave the decision on whether to rebuild the clubhouse up to his three daughters. But he’s just grateful he got as many years here as he did.<\/p>\n

“It’s another kid. Frog Rock is another kid to me. One green, she has this kind of temperature, this green has another kind of temperature, you know what I mean?” Colasurdo said. It was a great, great life here and I hope I can continue another two or three years, or at least another two or three weeks. Whatever God gives me!”<\/p>\n

Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the fire and possible explosion.<\/p>\n

Anyone who had events scheduled here will get their money back, Colasurdo said, including a couple set to get married here this weekend.<\/p>\n

No word yet on when this building will be torn down, but Rocky plans to have golfers out here on the links as soon as Wednesday.<\/p>\n
