The incident happened on Wednesday after a retail theft turned into a police chase and ended in a deadly shooting. TimelinePolice said troopers responded to the Dicks Sporting Goods on Lincoln Way East in Guilford Township around 6 p.m. for a retail theft. Upon arrival, the theft suspects fled the scene and headed towards Interstate 81 southbound, leading to a pursuit, officials said. According to state police, troopers deployed spike strips along the interstate and successfully stopped the vehicle. Officials said three people were inside the suspect vehicle: two females and a male. Both female suspects complied with the troopers&#8217; commands and exited the vehicle to be placed in custody, according to police. However, the male suspect began shooting at police, striking two Pennsylvania State troopers, investigators said. Troopers then returned fire, shooting and killing the male suspect, according to police. Officials have not yet released his identity. Troopers in critical conditionThe two state troopers who were shot were airlifted by a medical helicopter to WellSpan York Hospital to be treated, according to investigators. Police said both troopers are considered to be in critical and serious condition. Officials have not yet released the names of the injured troopers.
