When the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl in February, they did so because of a team that was brilliant on both sides of the ball.<\/p>\n
Yes, the Eagles\u2019 defensive line dominated Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs<\/a> in the championship game. That performance overshadowed Philadelphia\u2019s postseason offense, which scored 11 touchdowns over the team\u2019s final two games.<\/p>\n The 2025 Eagles are an entirely different story.<\/p>\n On one hand, the team is 4-1, tied for the most wins in the NFL. On the other, the offense is a far cry from what it was last season \u2014 and is currently the biggest roadblock in Philadelphia\u2019s path to a repeat.<\/p>\n Through five games, the Eagles are 30th in total offense, 31st in passing yards per game, and 14th in points per game. (Last season, Philly was eighth in offense, seventh in points per game, and most importantly, second in rushing.)<\/p>\n<\/p>\n This year, the Eagles\u2019 ground game especially has fallen off a cliff, averaging only 99.8 yards a week, 25th in the NFL.<\/p>\n After running for more than 2,000 yards last season and averaging over five yards per carry, 2024 Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley has taken a major step back in 2025, averaging under 75 yards per game on 3.2 yards per carry. <\/p>\n \u201cObviously, I would love everything firing at a high level,\u201d Barkley told reporters<\/a> Tuesday. \u201cBut there\u2019s a long-term goal for this, too, and you just want to continue to build. And even when you think you\u2019re firing at a high level, there\u2019s always something you can improve on. And right now we know, we\u2019re identifying what we need to improve on, what we need to be better at. We just got to go fix it.\u201d<\/p>\n The below-average rushing attack is probably Philadelphia\u2019s biggest problem, but the anemic passing game is not far behind. <\/p>\n Last season, the Eagles compensated for a lack of aerial explosiveness with its rugged running. This year, quarterback Jalen Hurts hasn\u2019t been able to make up for the lack of yards on the ground with a downfield attack, leading to some public grumbling from his receivers.<\/p>\n \u201cI think it\u2019s normal to have frustrations because of the standard that we hold ourselves to,\u201d wideout A.J. Brown said<\/a> in the days after the team\u2019s Week 4 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.<\/p>\n Following that game, Brown didn\u2019t speak to reporters after taking issue with the team\u2019s offense, instead posting a Bible quote to X that read: \u201cIf you\u2019re not welcomed, not listened to, quietly withdraw. Don\u2019t make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way.\u201d<\/p>\n Brown\u2019s production has taken a hit this season, one year after he caught 67 passes for 1,079 yards and seven touchdowns in only 13 games. Currently, Brown is on a 17-game pace for only 66 receptions, 660 yards and three scores. <\/p>\n Brown\u2019s running mate DeVonta Smith after Philadelphia\u2019s 21-17 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday the offense was \u201cnot on the same page.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe made improvements in a lot of areas, but we can still get better.\u201d Smith told reporters<\/a> after the game, \u201cWe shot ourselves in the foot a lot, we left a couple plays out there.\u201d<\/p>\n (The offensive disfunction led to a long meeting between Hurts, Brown and Barkley on Monday, which was first reported<\/a> by Philly Voice and then confirmed by the players.)<\/p>\n If there is a silver lining for the Eagles, it\u2019s that the team is winning even amid the offense\u2019s struggles. <\/p>\n Philadelphia was also arguably in a worse position last season, when the team started 2-2, the offense was middling, and head coach Nick Sirianni was both trying to mend his relationship<\/a> with Hurts and openly arguing<\/a> with fans on the sidelines. <\/p>\n
