\n\tWarner Bros<\/a> Motion Picture chairs\u00a0Michael De Luca<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Pamela Abdy<\/a>\u00a0touted movies in theaters with De Luca saying he\u2019d have a problem working for a movie studio that didn\u2019t put its fare on the big screen \u2014 noting that he\u2019s thought about that a lot, and if it ever happened he\u2019d probably focus on series.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut both will be at WB for the foreseeable future. At the Bloomberg Screentime conference in LA today, the duo acknowledged their contract renewal announced Wednesday. They also weaved away from any criticism of their past rocky relationship with WBD CEO David Zaslav<\/a>, who had been openly talking to other execs about running the film division back when the studio was having a rough patch.<\/p>\n

\n\tWith the relentless success over the past months starting with Minecraft (a sequel is coming<\/a>),\u00a0 Ryan Coogler\u2019s\u00a0(\u201call heart\u201d) Sinners, a Superman revival and praise for One Battle After Another the duo are now sitting in the C-Suite drivers\u2019 seat and are a major asset for WB unto themselves<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re doing our part,\u201d\u00a0said De Luca on the growth in actual big screen output, with WBD now at pre-pandemic box office levels.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThere is no one size fits all. Abdy added, meaning budgets, but also emphasizing their overall approach to their diverse slate, a key ingredient being \u201cdiscipline.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSpreading the wealth with praise for other members of their team and a newly \u201csuper charged\u201d marketing team, De Luca and Abdy\u2019s confidence onstage in the heart of Hollywood Wednesday was actually refreshingly low key \u2013 an industry rarity. To that, the crowd was locked in on every node and wink from the seasoned producers of what could happen next in the fast changing industry.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt all starts with the script, it all starts with the story,\u201d Abdy said in what is usually a town cliche. De Luca added that a significant portion of their strategy was marketing and \u201cdiscipline\u201d on production and costs. \u201cWhen there is a good run at a studio, morale is high,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOur North Star is keeping our head down and doing the work,\u201d said Abdy.<\/p>\n

\n\tCentering\u00a0 on One Battle After Another\u2018s long-term box office success, De Luca spotlighted the acclaimed Leonardo DiCaprio authoritarian \u201d masterpiece\u201d from Paul Thomas Anderson as being a \u201cmarathon not a sprint.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe two took the stage just after David Ellison<\/a>, the new CEO of Paramount<\/a> Skydance, currently eyeing an acquisition of Warner Bros. They avoided any talk of a potential pending merger.
