Michael J. Fox is sharing new details from his \u201cBack to the Future\u201d days.<\/p>\n

Fox originally wasn\u2019t the first choice for the now iconic role of Marty McFly. That honor went to actor Eric Stoltz, who Fox eventually replaced after the filmmakers realized Stoltz wasn\u2019t quite the right fit a few weeks into filming.<\/p>\n

The two actors recently met for the first time while Fox was working on his book \u201cFuture Boy,\u201d covering the intense period of time when he worked on \u201cBack to the Future\u201d and \u201cFamily Ties\u201d at the same time.<\/p>\n

Stoltz declined to take part in the book, but Fox told People Magazine<\/a>, “I’m a big fan of his. He’s really great. And particularly I’m a big Tarantino fan \u2014 \u2018Pulp Fiction\u2019 was amazing.”<\/p>\n

“It was great. It was a great conversation. It was just two guys talking, which is what I thought it would be,\u201d he said of their meeting.<\/p>\n

Fox also put to rest speculation about lingering tension between himself and Stoltz, who has never spoken publicly about being replaced in the film.<\/p>\n

“There’s all this mythology built up about this thing that happened. Was it backstabbing? Was there people conniving and being evil? No, it just was the thing that happened,\u201d Fox said. “We had different experiences with the same situation and you absorb it and you move on.”<\/p>\n

Fox\u2019s career took off after \u201cBack to the Future\u201d but was slowed after he was diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s disease and took a step back from acting for most of the 2000s and 2010s.<\/p>\n

He eventually retired from acting in 2020, but five years later he\u2019s joining the cast of the Emmy-winning comedy \u201cShrinking\u201d on AppleTV+ for a three-episode arc.<\/p>\n

The 64-year-old started as a fan and noted that Harrison Ford\u2019s character, Dr. Paul Rhoades, has Parkinson\u2019s as well.<\/p>\n

After seeing the show, Fox told the outlet<\/a> he called series creator and former \u201cSpin City\u201d colleague Bill Lawerence and asked, \u201c\u2018You did a show about Parkinson\u2019s, and you didn\u2019t call me?\u2019 And he said, \u2018Oh, you want to do it?\u2019 And I said, \u2018I\u2019d love to do it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Lawerence came up with a concept that they\u2019re keeping close to the vest, but Fox is playing someone with Parkinson\u2019s.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was the first time ever I get to show up on-set, and I didn\u2019t have to worry about am I too tired or coughing or anything,\u201d he told People. \u201cI just do it. It was really good, because for the moments when I say, \u2018I\u2019m not going to be able to do this,\u2019 then I say, \u2018Well, I\u2019ll just deal with how I can\u2019t do it in the scene.\u2019 And you get through it.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Michael J.
