Somehow, we’ve made it to the end of another season of DC Studios’ Peacemaker<\/a>. The season of television that felt like it was never going to arrive, the sophomore outing of the John Cena-led<\/a> series arrived on HBO Max over three years after the first installment ended – which is particularly wild when you remember that it was renewed around the time of season 1’s run. <\/p>\n

The second season has seen the show position itself in the newly-formed DC Universe<\/a> while also carrying on some of the loose plot threads from the DCEU-set first season. There have been minor changes, such as the DCEU’s Justice League becoming the DCU’s Justice Gang (along with the references to James Gunn’s own Superman) but the show has kept so much of what made its first season so successful. <\/p>\n

With Christopher Smith and the 11th Street Kids now having completed their second adventure together, fans are understandably wondering if a third season of the DC TV show is on the horizon. Here’s what we know. <\/p>\n

Peacemaker hasn’t officially been renewed at HBO Max as James Gunn has other plans for these characters<\/p>\n

Peacemaker may have been led by the titular character (in a career best performance from John Cena) but it is essentially an ensemble piece, as Christopher Smith’s best friends have been there by his side every step of the way. The story is not over for the 11th Street Kids just yet as James Gunn has plans for the chaotic antiheroes. The only problem is that they might not necessarily take place in a third season of Peacemaker. <\/p>\n

In a recent interview with Deadline<\/a>, Gunn opened up about whether Peacemaker season 3 could happen and he had quite an interesting response, saying that the next chapter of their stories are not necessarily going to be in that format:<\/p>\n

“You\u2019re gonna find out more in episode 8 because it\u2019s not necessarily that.”<\/p>\n

The good news is that the Co-Chairman and CEO of DC Studios (along with Peter Safran) isn’t ruling a third season out down the line, adding:<\/p>\n

“Some of these characters will continue, but also, it\u2019s not exactly Peacemaker 3. I\u2019m not ruling it out. You\u2019ll see (episode) 8 and maybe you\u2019ll find out a little bit more.”<\/p>\n

So, regardless of whether Peacemaker season 3 happens, James Gunn clearly plans on bringing these characters back into the DC Universe at some point in the near-future, and that’s an extremely good thing.<\/p>\n

Waller will likely continue the story of Peacemaker<\/p>\n

When James Gunn and Peter Safran first took over the reins of the DC Universe and reset the former DCEU, one of the projects they announced as part of the franchise’s “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters” era was Waller. That means that Viola Davis will reprise her DCEU role as the corrupt, ruthless Amanda Waller in a series of her own and anticipation is high for that. <\/p>\n

It has been a long time since Gunn made that announcement and plans for the DC Universe have shifted since then, but Gunn did recently confirm to People that the series is still happening as they are working on it. He did admit that it hasn’t been the fastest in terms of production, but that it is still coming along. <\/p>\n

As for this one’s relevance to Peacemaker? Davis’ Waller appeared in both Suicide Squad movies – the second of which was directed by Gunn himself. She also had a cameo in the season 1 finale of Peacemaker as it was revealed that Leota Adebayo was actually her daughter. She went public with that information, which had drastic effects on Waller’s career. Needless to say, she’s undoubtedly plotting her revenge against the 11 Street Kids. <\/p>\n

Given that Peacemaker, Emilia Harcourt, John Economos, and Adebayo all have connections to her, it’s fair to assume that they’ll be involved in this one – especially given that Gunn is the one who brought the remnants of the DCEU into this new DC Universe. In fact, Gunn confirmed<\/a> that Team Peacemaker would be involved in the project, so it’s safe to say we’ll see them again. <\/p>\n

Whether Peacemaker season 3 happens or not, the cast and crew of the show will likely be back on our screens in the near-future.
