CANTON, Kan. (KSNW) \u2014 If you ever thought about owning a bison, now\u2019s your chance.<\/p>\n
The Maxwell Wildlife Refuge<\/a> is hosting its annual bison auction the first week of November. The public is invited to bid on the 61 bison that are being auctioned off this year.<\/p>\n Scares and fun as Botanica hosts Bootanica <\/a><\/p>\n The list includes five cows, 14 yearling heifers, 13 2-year-old bulls, 13 yearling bulls, eight bull calves, and eight heifer calves. The refuge said heifer calves older than 6 months will be vaccinated for brucellosis and certificates will be issued.<\/p>\n Buyers must pick up bison on the day of the sale or make arrangements with the refuge manager beforehand. Once paid for, the bison are solely the purchaser\u2019s responsibility.<\/p>\n The refuge will accept payments by cash, card or personal check, as long as it is accompanied by a notarized authorization letter from the issuing bank. The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks reserves the right to reject any or all bids.<\/p>\n Loading assistance is available until dusk on the day of the auction, and trailers should be covered or lined, as bison transport best in dark conditions.<\/p>\n Those interested in bidding can register in advance by filling out the\u00a0bidder registration form<\/a>\u00a0and emailing it to\u00a0cassie.smith@ks.gov<\/a>\u00a0no later than Nov. 3. But onsite registration will also be available.<\/p>\n The auction will start at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, 6 miles north of Canton in McPherson County.
