Eva the spider monkey was on the run Saturday morning in Eutawville.(Casey Hill)<\/p>\nEUTAWVILLE, S.C. (WIS) – A spider monkey hanging on the side of a building isn\u2019t something you\u2019d normally see every day – especially in the small town of Eutawville.<\/p>\n
Eutawville Town Clerk Casey Hill said she spotted the monkey, named Eva, while setting up for the annual Crappie Classic and Fall Fest on Oct. 4. <\/p>\n
Hill noted that Eva was wearing a collar and a leash. <\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know what to think,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019ve never seen a monkey running loose in Eutawville.\u201d<\/p>\n
For a while, no one was able to catch Eva. Even when her owner showed up, the spider monkey still ran back and forth across the street. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe kept having to stop traffic because we didn\u2019t want anybody to get injured or Eva to get hurt,\u201d Hill said. <\/p>\n
That\u2019s when she got an idea of how to lure Eva in. <\/p>\n
\u201cI opened the cup of coffee up and set it down,\u201d said Hill. \u201cIt took her about a minute, and she came right on over to the cup of coffee and started drinking it. When she did, I was able to put my foot down on the leash she had around her so that her owner was able to get her.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Eva is now safe and back at home with her owner, the encounter is one Hill and others in Eutawville will never forget. <\/p>\n
\u201cEvery time we have a festival, we have something interesting pop up,\u201d Hill said jokingly. <\/p>\n
