Portland remains a hot topic on the late-night talk shows, with both \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d and \u201cThe Daily Show\u201d getting in some zingers on Thursday night.<\/p>\n
Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> poked fun at President Donald Trump\u2019s<\/a> antifa roundtable<\/a>. During that event Wednesday, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem<\/a> said that the girlfriend of one of the founders of antifa recently had been arrested in Portland.<\/p>\n \u201cYou understand, there\u2019s no antifa,\u201d Kimmel said in his monologue. \u201cThis is an entirely imaginary organization. There\u2019s not an antifa. This is no different than if they announced they rounded up a dozen Decepticons.\u201d<\/p>\n Then Kimmel took aim at the president\u2019s claim that in Portland, \u201cYou don\u2019t even have stores anymore.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t know what\u2019s scarier, the idea that he\u2019s making this all up or that he actually might believe this stuff,\u201d Kimmel said. \u201cThere are no stores in Portland? It\u2019s as if he\u2019s getting his intelligence briefings from reruns of \u2018The Walking Dead.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Kimmel went on to show videos sent in by viewers to show what life is like right now in \u201cwar-ravaged\u201d Portland. One showed a Burgerville marquee that said \u201cAll new breakfast.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cClearly this is a whole socialist, anarchist order,\u201d the viewer says on the video, \u201cgetting rid of old breakfast and insisting that we all choose their new breakfast.\u201d<\/p>\n On \u201cThe Daily Show,\u201d Josh Johnson<\/a> also took on the topic of antifa, which Trump has designated a domestic terrorist organization.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s tricky because, while there are people who identify as antifa, it isn\u2019t really an official group. They don\u2019t even have a website,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cLike, my cousin\u2019s baby has its own website.\u201d<\/p>\n Johnson also made fun of Noem, showing footage of a peaceful scene during her Tuesday visit to Portland<\/a> and the camera panning to one protester dressed in a chicken costume.<\/p>\n \u201cOK, that doesn\u2019t look that scary,\u201d Johnson said, \u201cbut you have to remember how scary it is for her to encounter a farm animal when she\u2019s unarmed.\u201d<\/p>\n Johnson showed another clip from Portland, this one at night, that showed protesters dancing while dressed in dinosaur and unicorn costumes.<\/p>\n \u201cListen, Trump, I\u2019m trying to be an ally,\u201d Johnson said, \u201cbut right now, I don\u2019t really see dangerous criminals. I just see virgins.\u201d<\/p>\n Johnson said he just wasn\u2019t sure that the hubbub in Portland \u2014 \u201call happening in one city block, in front of one ICE building\u201d \u2014 demanded a federal response.<\/p>\n \u201cThe rest of the city is completely normal,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cI mean, it\u2019s still Portland. So it\u2019s normal, but it\u2019s like Portland normal. You know what I mean? Like, there will be a naked guy with a handlebar mustache riding a unicycle down the street. But that\u2019s supposed to be happening, all right?\u201d<\/p>\n Finally, Johnson closed with a comparison between antifa and another elusive Northwest figure.<\/p>\n \u201cI look at antifa the way I look at Bigfoot,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cIt\u2019s big, scary and tearing up the Pacific Northwest.\u201d<\/p>\n He then showed a mock documentary about antifa, using footage from William Shatner\u2019s \u201cThe UnXplained\u201d but adding edits and voiceovers about antifa.<\/p>\n If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
