\u201cSNL\u201d returned to the air for the second episode of its 51st season on Saturday, October 11, with former cast member Amy Poehler<\/a> serving as host and musical guest Role Model.<\/p>\n

The Burlington native, who was part of the \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d cast from 2001 to 2008, was hosting \u201cSNL\u201d for the third time. She hosted for the first time in 2010, and again in 2015 alongside Tina Fey.<\/p>\n

Fittingly, her longtime comedy collaborator showed up immediately, playing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem alongside Poehler\u2019s combative Attorney General Pam Bondi in the political cold open.<\/p>\n

Poehler also noted in her monologue that Saturday\u2019s episode actually took place on the 50th anniversary (to the day) of the show\u2019s very first episode, hosted by George Carlin.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd just like George Carlin, I\u2019m extremely high,\u201d Poehler joked.<\/p>\n

Poehler also talked about how she dreamed of being on the show growing up.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember watching the show in the \u201970s, sitting in my house in Burlington, Massachusetts, thinking, \u2018I want to be an actress someday,’\u201d Poehler said. \u201cAt least until they invent an AI actress who\u2019s funnier and willing to do full-frontal.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Fey wasn\u2019t the only pal of Poehler\u2019s to make an appearance in the episode. \u201cParks & Rec\u201d co-star Aubrey Plaza popped up in a parody of Netflix\u2019s salacious drama \u201cThe Hunting Wives,\u201d while both of her former \u201cWeekend Update\u201d co-hosts, Fey and Seth Meyers, joined her at the desk for a joke-off with Colin Jost and Michael Che.<\/p>\n

Even the musical guest, Maine native Role Model (real name Tucker Pillsbury), got a celebrity cameo to support his performance. His hit song \u201cSally, When the Wine Runs Out\u201d frequently features a famous figure on stage as the titular Sally. His \u201cSNL\u201d performance of the song was no different, with Charli XCX popping in for a brief cameo.<\/p>\n
