It\u2019s been nearly three years since\u00a0Halloween Ends<\/a> closed the book on the reboot films, but there\u2019s still more to learn about it.<\/p>\n

According to BloodyDisgusting<\/a>, the recently published book\u00a0Horror\u2019s New Wave: 15 Years of Blumhouse<\/a>\u00a0by David Schilling reveals an alternate ending to the conclusion of\u00a0Ends. In the theatrical version, Laurie Strode defeats Michael Myers in her home, then disposes of his dead body with her granddaughter Allison and the people of Haddonfield in industrial shredder. But there were different versions of that fateful brawl, and it\u2019d have ended with the reboots in a darker or more self-referential place.<\/p>\n

In the book, Jamie Lee Curtis revealed\u00a0an ending they filmed which would\u2019ve seen Laurie essentially become Michael upon killing him, leading to her living in isolation again, as she was doing in the 2018 Halloween. This was likened to a \u201ctransference,\u201d and she conceded it might\u2019ve been \u201ctoo dark and too profound to satisfy the hunger of this 40-year journey.\u201d As a result, she asserted it\u2019d be better for Laurie to be with Frank and have a happier ending.<\/p>\n

But interestingly, Curtis also discussed the original ending (back when it was titled\u00a0Halloween Dies) where Laurie and Michael fought in a mask factory crafting his mask for the spooky season. In her words, it\u2019d have been the film\u2019s way of saying, \u201c\u2018We\u2019re all monsters if we put on the mask. It\u2019s not just Michael, it\u2019s all of us, if we wear the mask.’\u201d The location was ultimately \u201ctoo intellectual for this finale,\u201d but she stands by the intent and thinks the ending they filmed showing Michael\u2019s mask in her house conveys a similar effect.<\/p>\n

As BD noted,\u00a0Halloween Ends\u00a0director David Gordon Green<\/a> said in 2023 he\u2019d written an ending that would\u2019ve taken place in a factory owned by Silver Shamrock, a novelty company featured prominently throughout Halloween III: Season of the Witch. Despite loving the film and\u00a0 \u201chaving the temptation\u201d to make that reference, he cut it since it would\u2019ve just been fan service for the subset of viewers who caught the reference. But maybe the next stab<\/a> at Halloween\u00a0will call back to\u00a0Halloween III\u00a0in some way?<\/p>\n
