{"id":221802,"date":"2025-10-13T15:32:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-13T15:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/221802\/"},"modified":"2025-10-13T15:32:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T15:32:09","slug":"mtv-to-end-5-uk-music-channels-in-december-as-part-of-500m-cost-cuts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/221802\/","title":{"rendered":"MTV to end 5 UK music channels in December as part of $500M cost cuts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"Q6JFX2WPQNEI7B5OADZCLGT7LM\">Nearly 40 years after debuting in the United Kingdom, MTV is retiring several of its channels there. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cdr612yz8p0o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cdr612yz8p0o\">According to BBC News, <\/a>MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV and MTV Live will no longer be available after Dec. 31, 2025. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"DPFQ3VAJ65HNXFRFDQLPT2Z3VQ\">MTV launched in the U.S. in 1981 and expanded to Europe in 1987, which included broadcasting in the U.K. A decade later, MTV added a dedicated channel for the U.K. A spokesperson for MTV\u2019s parent company, Paramount, declined to comment on the matter. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"YXLIGS6ZORBSJPPMTUDIL6HBJ4\">MTV HD will remain an option for viewers in the U.K., but will not show music videos. MTV HD stopped airing music videos in 2011 and will move forward with a focus on reality TV series. Although the channels are disappearing in the U.K., it appears the U.S. versions will be unaffected. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"EUZXMO6LJZD2DCYUBO2TVSMJZA\">According to the BBC, the move comes as the company looks to shed more than $500 million from its global portfolio. <\/p>\n<p>If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
