The scariest thing about Stranger Things\u2018 fourth season was the episode runtimes. We weren\u2019t the A.V. Club<\/a> to notice that the bloated runtimes had an adverse effect on the show\u2019s narrative flow<\/a>. As\u00a0the premiere of Stranger Things 5 approaches, the collective members of the Hawkins A.V. Club have spent months biting their nails at the prospect of another season filled with episodes that run upwards of 98 minutes\u2014not to mention a two-and-a-half-hour finale. That\u2019s too many Eggos for a single Stephen King fanatic. Thankfully, in hopes of quelling the slow wave of anxiety cresting on his TV show\u2019s fanbase, Stranger Things co-creator Ross Duffer posted the \u201cACTUAL\u201d episode lengths on his Instagram page earlier today<\/a>, and let\u2019s just say they\u2019re shorter than last season.<\/p>\n

In a post captioned \u201cACTUAL runtimes,\u201d Duffer revealed that the first three Chapters of season five run 68 minutes or less. However, one can see runtime creep infiltrating his editing process because the part one finale (yeah, this Stranger Things is another split season deal) clocks in at one hour and 23 minutes. Is that a sign of things to come? Should we clear our schedules for part two? Please, Mr. Duffer, tell us how we should conduct our lives. We\u2019re hopeless over here.<\/p>\n

Anyway, here are the runtimes for your TV scheduling purposes:<\/p>\n

Chapter One: 68 minutes
Chapter Two: 54 minutes
Chapter Three: 66 minutes
Chapter Four: 83 minutes<\/p>\n

Per Variety<\/a>, the post offers some relief from reports that each episode would run between 90 minutes and two hours. Season four saw the Duffers really stretch these episodes out, with all but one episode running longer than 70 minutes. Given that they\u2019re using the more consistent and reasonable runtimes as part of their personal promotion for the show, the Duffers have heard you, they\u2019ve seen you, and they\u2019re making changes.<\/p>\n

For those who still have their calendars open, the first part of Stranger Things 5 premieres on November 26, and the final three episodes will premiere on December 31. Those episodes better be short, too, because no one wants to enter the new year with episodes of Stranger Things hanging over them.<\/p>\n
