That\u2019s the experience at the Human Library, coming to the <a href=\"https:\/\/rcnv.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Resource Center for Nonviolence<\/a> in Santa Cruz on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 1 to 4 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Participants can engage in conversation with living \u201cbooks\u201d \u2014 people who have been discriminated against in their daily lives because of their identity, lifestyle, occupation, social status, religious belief, sexuality or ethnic origin.<\/p>\n<p>Organizers of the event, put on by Santa Cruz Public Libraries, say it provides a space for residents to explore their own prejudices in a non-judgmental way. \u201cEveryone has prejudices, but not everyone has the opportunity to find out whether what they believe about other people is true within a safe space,\u201d the library system said in a media release.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/santacruzpl.libnet.info\/event\/14307927\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Human Library<\/a> offers one or more 30-minute readings with up to three different \u201chuman books.\u201d Interactive activities exploring identity and intersectionality are available between sections. The final reading starts at 3:30 p.m. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/united-against-hate-week-human-library-in-santa-cruz-tickets-1665353018709?aff=oddtdtcreator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Registration<\/a> is recommended, though walk-ins are also welcome.<\/p>\n<p>The event is part of United Against Hate Week from Oct. 19-25, encouraging community dialogue and understanding to counter bias and prejudice.
