While many smartphone makers continue to struggle with stagnant sales, Apple seems to be defying the odds at this point. The iPhone 17 lineup has landed with serious momentum, and the results are visible in the numbers, as per a new report.

Apple’s iPhone 17 lineup drives record growth in global smartphone shipments, narrowing the gap with its long-time rival

IDC’s report from the third quarter shows that Apple is coming closer than ever to dethroning Samsung as the world’s top smartphone maker (via CNET). Samsung still holds the crown with a 19 percent market share, but Apple is right behind at 18.2 percent, all thanks to the company’s latest iPhone 17 lineup. The distance between the two companies is strikingly less, dropping to less than a single percentage point apart.

What’s interesting is how Apple is achieving this feat, as the company is neither slashing prices nor flooding the market with budget handsets. Instead, the company is doubling down on its premium strategy while making it more accessible. IDC notes that Apple’s success stems from a mix of smart incentives and compelling hardware-software integration. It was also recently reported that Apple posted its strongest third quarter sales thanks to the iPhone 17.

Here’s what’s driving the sales:

Attractive Trade-In Programs: This allows users to upgrade without feeling the full sting of flagship prices.

Flexible Financing Plans: Monthly payments make high-end devices more reachable to users who cannot afford the device upfront.

Ecosystem Loyalty: Apple’s integration across iPhone, Apple Watch, and Mac keeps users glued to the new releases.

IDC’s Nabila Popal explained that these strategies have turned upgrading into a “no-brainer” for many customers. Meanwhile, Apple shipped about 58.6 million iPhones last quarter, which is a 2.9 percent increase year-over-year. On the flip side, Samsung shipped 61.4 million units, but given the markets Samsung operates in and the plethora of devices it sells, the number is shockingly close to Apple’s.

“[Phone makers] have mastered the art of innovation not only in hardware and software to entice upgrades but also in removing purchase friction. They have flawlessly combined cutting-edge devices with innovative financing models and aggressive trade-in programs that make the upgrading decision a ‘no-brainer’ for consumers.”

If the trend continues, Apple could soon reclaim the top spot for global smartphone shipments, something it only managed to achieve briefly last year. With its premium devices selling almost as fast as Samsung’s entire lineup, Apple’s formula of refinement, reliability, and loyalty might be paying off.

Will Apple finally overtake Samsung to become the world’s top smartphone maker this year?

Follow Wccftech on Google or add us as a preferred source, to get our news coverage and reviews in your feeds.

Apple’s latest iPhone 17 lineup is proving that people still crave premium devices, even in a tough global…

[41
165,74
0":"post-226244","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-mobile","8":"tag-mobile","9":"tag-technology
["GET
