Morgan Phillips\/Butler Eagle<\/p>\n<p>\n                  Morgan Phillips\n              <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cHe never took his boots off,\u201d Helen Comperatore said in an interview leading up to Sunday\u2019s celebration of life for her late husband, where the statue was unveiled.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">The red-brown, steel-toed boots were \u201calmost dressy,\u201d she explained. He\u2019d often pair them with jeans and a dress shirt while working at JSP International, but he\u2019d wear them everywhere else as well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">He had more than a dozen pairs of the same shoes in his closet when he died. He died shielding his wife and their two adult daughters from the gunfire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Two other men were critically injured in the assassination attempt, and Trump\u2019s ear was grazed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cI felt Corey deserved a place there. So many people have come all year around, from all over the world to be there,\u201d Helen Comperatore said about the venue. \u201cI wanted a place for them \u2014 and a place for my children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">The daughters, Allyson and Kaylee Comperatore, pulled back the curtain covering the statue on Sunday evening after Helen Comperatore and the statue\u2019s creator, Alan Cottrill, of Zanesville, Ohio, addressed the crowd.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Helen and others from Corey Comperatore\u2019s immediate family then joined her daughters at the base of the statue. Morgan Phillips\/Butler Eagle<\/p>\n<p>\n                  Morgan Phillips\n              <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">For the statue, Helen Comperatore said she intentionally chose Cottrill, who spoke at the celebration of life on Sunday about his process behind making the statue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cYou\u2019ll see here momentarily, I tried to capture the essence of Corey,\u201d Cottrill said at the unveiling. \u201cHis face has just a hint of a smile. I didn\u2019t want to get an open-mouth smile. I wanted something a little more serious, so just a hint of the smile.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">The statue features Comperatore with his Bible in one hand and has elements to represent Helen and his daughters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cHe\u2019s wearing his wedding band, that\u2019s me,\u201d Helen Comperatore said in an interview before the event. \u201cAnd he has two bracelets in his hand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">One reads \u201cAllyson,\u201d and the other says \u201cKaylee,\u201d recognizing both his daughters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">At the celebration, Cottrill explained his process behind recreating some of Corey Comperatore\u2019s personal items for the statue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cI said (to Helen Comperatore) \u2018I would like to 3D scan his actual boots. Son to Karen, and brother to Kelly and Dawn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cUnited States Army Veteran, firefighter for Buffalo Twp VFD for 34 years, avid fisherman, and loved by our many family dogs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cCorey\u2019s life was taken tragically while protecting his wife and daughters. Forever loved, forever missed, your courage, your legacy, will live on in us forever until we meet again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Helen Comperatore said she intentionally chose Cottrill to create the statue after admiring a life-size statue of Trump punching his fist in the air as he was hurried off stage on July 13, 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">While the statue of Corey will be located at the farm show grounds \u2014 right beside the Butler Farm Show office \u2014 the statue of Trump is yet to find its permanent home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Wherever it winds up, Helen Comperatore said she appreciates that Cottrill was a force behind creating both bronze statues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">The statue of Corey Comperatore will later be positioned behind a locked gate outside of regular farm show grounds\u2019 office hours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cIt\u2019s there for everyone,\u201d Helen Comperatore said of the statue. \u201cI want people to go up and see it.
