Five years ago, vivo introduced OriginOS<\/a>, its next generation OS that was set to replace FuntouchOS \u2013 and it did, but only in China. Until now. As you may have heard, OriginOS is going global.<\/p>\n

This is happening with the newly-introduced version 6, which is based on Android 16. Check out our overview of what\u2019s new<\/a> in OriginOS 6.<\/p>\n

The new OS version will debut with the vivo X300<\/a> and X300 Pro<\/a>, though we don\u2019t have details on when they might be rolling out globally yet. You can check out our hands-on review<\/a> with both phones, if you are curious.<\/p>\n

Other models set to get OriginOS 6 are the vivo X Fold5<\/a>, the vivo X200 series<\/a>, in addition to the iQOO 13<\/a> and the iQOO Neo10 series<\/a>. This will start next month and will extend into 2026 as the company updates older and older models.<\/p>\n

The new version focuses on a buttery smooth experience. It speeds up app col-start times and accelerates data loading, while also improving frame rate stability. It has a brand new animation engine with several animation styles that tie into the new design language for the user interface.<\/p>\n

Speaking of design, the new Origin Design system seeks to unify visual elements on the screen. Transparency and blur are key elements and there is a bespoke new font. Vivo Sans supports over 40 languages and have fully adjustable weight for improved legibility.<\/p>\n

The Origin Island integrates with a new Android 16 feature called Live Updates. It can remain visible on top of the screen and offer instant access to contextually-relevant actions, e.g. Copy & Go will copy a phone number and let you directly call or message that number, while Drag & Go will let you do quick edits to an image without leaving the app that you are currently using.<\/p>\n

vivo AI also has a key role to play in the new UI. vivo worked closely with Google to integrate the Gemini chatbot and the Circle to Search feature. Again, check out our What\u2019s New article<\/a> for a more detailed look.<\/p>\n

vivo will start rolling out OriginOS 6 in November, you can find a detailed timeline in our What’s New post. Do note that this will happen in phases \u2013 meaning that some markets will get it before others. <\/p>\n
