\n\tHuntr\/x is returning to movie theaters near you.<\/p>\n
\n\tNetflix is bringing \u201cKPop Demon Hunters<\/a>,\u201d an animated fantasy adventure about a fictional K-pop girl group who protect the world from demons with their music, back to the big screen for Halloween-themed sing-along screenings. (Costumes are encouraged, the streamer wrote in a press release.) It\u2019ll play from Oct. 31 through Nov. 2 at all three major U.S. theatrical chains \u2014 AMC, Regal and Cinemark \u2014 and in select theaters. That\u2019s significant because the nation\u2019s top circuits are usually loath to program films from the theatrical-averse Netflix.<\/p>\n \n\tTo that end, it\u2019s also notable that Netflix is re-releasing its most popular movie in cinemas. For exhibitors, this should be another boon amid a sluggish October at the box office. All that\u2019s otherwise currently scheduled to open around Halloween is Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone\u2019s twisted thriller \u201cBugonia\u201d and a \u201cTwilight\u201d re-release.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cKPop Demon Hunters\u201d topped the box office in late August, generating a surprisingly strong estimated $18 million<\/a> when a sing-along edition was initially released in theaters for two days. It was unusual that Netflix scheduled \u201cKPop Demon Hunters\u201d on the big screen in the first place \u2014 not just because the company doesn\u2019t prioritize theatrical, but because the movie had debuted on the streaming platform about two months prior. But since June, \u201cKPop Demon Hunters\u201d has become Netflix\u2019s most popular release ever while three of its original songs \u2014 \u201cGolden,\u201d \u201cYour Idol\u201d and \u201cSoda Pop\u201d \u2014 have been mainstays on Billboard\u2019s Hot 100 chart. A theatrical event helps drive fans back to the platform for re-watches and the forthcoming sequel<\/a>.<\/p>\n \n\tAMC Theatres, the world\u2019s largest circuit, was the only major chain that didn\u2019t play the film the first time around. Now \u201cKPop Demon Hunters\u201d will screen at approximately 400 AMC locations across the U.S. and Europe. And AMC seems to be softening its stance against Netflix, meaning this might not be the last collaboration between the world\u2019s largest theater chain and the biggest streaming platform.
