The data would normally have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/10\/03\/nx-s1-5561750\/shutdown-jobs-labor-economy-wall-street\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">released on Oct. 3<\/a>, but with BLS employees on furlough, data for September was unavailable.<\/p>\n<p>State economists were able to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qualityinfo.org\/documents\/20117\/102310\/Employment%20in%20Oregon\/1f647e44-fec8-2484-12eb-67eba05eb714?version=8.0\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">release their analysis<\/a> of federal Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages data from the second quarter of 2025. That report relies on data collected from unemployment insurance records.<\/p>\n<p>That report found a decline of 3,800 jobs from a year prior.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The private sector lost 11,100 jobs over the year, which was a decline of almost 1%. The government [sector] did add jobs, 7,300, and three-fourths of those gains were in local government,&#8221; said Oregon Employment Economist Gail Krumenauer.<\/p>\n<p>The monthly report also highlighted the number of federal employees in Oregon in the QCEW data. About 29,000 people in Oregon have a federal job that requires unemployment insurance.
