WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert has been under a lot of pressure ever since the Napheesa Collier controversy. Collier recently called out Engelbert, questioning the latter\u2019s leadership, mentioning Caitlin Clark, and demanding change for the betterment of the players.<\/p>\n

Players are completely in support of Collier. Moreover, social media is clear evidence of fans backing Collier. However, they got a more public platform to show discontent towards Engelbert when A\u2019ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces lifted the WNBA title.<\/p>\n

The Aces lifted the WNBA trophy on Saturday, Oct. 11. When WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert grabbed the mic to say a few words and hand over the trophy, fans in Phoenix made sure to express their anger towards her.<\/p>\n

Fans booed the WNBA commissioner during the ceremony. American soccer legend Kelley O\u2019Hara gave her two cents on the incident on her \u2018Sports Are Fun\u2019 podcast. In conversation with Darian Jenkins and BJ Beckwith, O\u2019Hara said <\/a>(20:20):<\/p>\n

\u201cCathy was not getting any sort of love in Phoenix. One thing WNBA fans can be united in is not being happy with Cathy and front office. And you saw that play out and I\u2019m like, \u2018I\u2019m telling you, the WNBA needs to understand, this is an issue.\u2019 And this was the first time we\u2019ve really heard Cathy be booed. Like I said last week, WNBA fans back the players. They ride hard.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

When asked about whether Cathy would resign, O\u2019Hara expressed uncertainty, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cI have no idea, honestly. I am very interested now that the season\u2019s done. Championship awarded, you know, it is chapter closed of 2025. Lot of things got to be happening in the coming weeks. Like as exhausted as these players are after finishing a season, they\u2019ve got a lot of work that they have to do in CBA negotiations. The league obviously does as well. But I really don\u2019t know how it\u2019s all going to play out, but it\u2019s going to be interesting. I know that for sure. I do.\u201d<\/p>\n

A\u2019ja Wilson & Aces Win Their 3rd WNBA Championship<\/p>\n

A\u2019ja Wilson just led the Aces to a miraculous WNBA title. With 28 games in, the Aces looked down on their luck. They looked nowhere near playoff qualification, let alone winning it all.<\/p>\n

However, their 50+ point loss against Napheesa Collier\u2019s Minnesota Lynx changed something within the team. They lost 111-58, and that awakened a beast in A\u2019ja Wilson and the rest of the players.<\/p>\n

The Aces went on a 16-game unbeaten streak before the playoffs. They fought and beat the Seattle Storm and the Indiana Fever by the narrowest of margins to reach the finals. In the finals against the Phoenix Mercury, A\u2019ja and the Aces showed their supremacy and swept the finals 4-0.<\/p>\n
