Florida athlete Kamauri Whitfield <\/a>made a public commitment to Tennessee on Wednesday evening. The athletic and twitchy defensive back chose the Vols over Auburn, Florida, Florida State and others. He has been a fast rising prospect in 2027. Volquest breaks down his pledge with impact analysis on what it means.<\/p>\n

The Scout<\/p>\n

Whitfield is a long defensive back, who has position versatility in the backend. He has played all over the secondary this fall.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe gives an exceptional effort at practice,\u201d First Academy head coach Jeff Conaway said. \u201cWe were just talking this week as a coaching staff that the way that he gives great effort and attention to detail and his focus, ability to be coachable and ability to adapt and learn has been very encouraging for us this season. He\u2019s played multiple positions and proven that he can play corner, safety, weak safety and nickel. So when you have a player, that\u2019s willing to do those things, willing to work and perform extremely high at each of those positions that\u2019s a coaches dream.\u201d<\/p>\n

A leader on the field, Conaway says Whitfield has traits you look for in a playmaker.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, of course he has the physical abilities. He\u2019s got good size for a nickel corner DB. He moves extremely well and he\u2019s fast. He does a great job of just having that football IQ that you want so he\u2019s able to be that dual player. The guy that can fit the run extremely well but also a guy that can cover anybody on the field. Those are those power 4 qualities and in our opinion and he does it extremely well at high school level.\u201d<\/p>\n

What does it mean for Tennessee?<\/p>\n

Whitfield is nice pickup as the 2027 class begins to build. The Vols need quality players in the secondary to build depth across the secondary and his versatility will help do that. His relationship with multiple members of the staff, including Earnest Thomas III (Coach ET), Willie Martinez<\/a> and Tim Banks<\/a>, was also crucial.<\/p>\n
