Kirby Smart appeared to call a timeout during the fourth quarter against Auburn<\/a> during Week 8. However, the timeout was called off after the Georgia<\/a> head coach controversially pleaded to the officials that he was clapping. <\/p>\n

The incident occurred with 13:06 left in the game on 3rd & 9 at the Tigers\u2019 39-yard-line while the play clock was expiring. In the end, Georgia was given its timeout back and the play clock was reset.<\/p>\n

The hosts of the Triple Option Podcast<\/a>, Urban Meyer, Rob Stone and Mark Ingram, mocked Smart for his theatrics during the SEC showdown. Stone asked Meyer to demonstrate how a head coach claps, and how one would call a timeout with point being that the motion looks different.<\/p>\n

\u201cKirby Smart on the sideline trying to say that this (mimics a timeout) is clapping,\u201d Stone said. \u201cThis is \u2014 I don\u2019t hear anything right in my microphone. Do you hear this clapping? What a bunch of B.S.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ingram responded, calling Smart \u201ccrazy,\u201d for the incident. Although, the former Alabama<\/a> running back\u2019s not upset that the officiating crew ruled in favor of Georgia, rather than his alma mater\u2019s bitter rival. <\/p>\n

As the play unfolded, Georgia\u2019s left tackle appeared to false start. It was unclear whether he did so because the play clock was winding down or because Auburn was simulating a clap. Smart alluded to this after the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey, man, weird stuff happens in that weird stadium,\u201d Ingram said. \u201cMaybe our vision was illusion, a figment of our imagination.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stone is less convinced that Smart was actually clapping during the moment. Though, Stone praised Smart\u2019s persistency in trying to get his point across. <\/p>\n

\u201cI love the fact that while the officials were having this conversation \u2014 what the hell is going on, that Kirby was out on the field,\u201d Stone said. \u201cStill doing this (mimics clap), doing his theater to anybody who would pay attention.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smart said after the game<\/a> that he wasn\u2019t calling a timeout. Instead, he was trying to get the official\u2019s attention regarding the alleged simulated clap. Smart added that he was sure his offense was going to get the snap off in time, so there was no need. <\/p>\n

On Monday<\/a>, Smart said that he stood by was he said on Saturday after the 20-10 win over Auburn and that he\u2019s focused on the top-10 matchup against Ole Miss<\/a> this weekend.
