MAGA mouthpieces vented live on social media as CNN hosted Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for a town hall on the government shutdown on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

The White House\u2019s RapidResponse47 X account live-posted throughout the 90-minute event, titled \u201cShutdown America.\u201d <\/p>\n

The independent senator from Vermont and the Democratic congresswoman from New York took questions from audience members, with CNN\u2019s Kaitlan Collins moderating. Student Nicole Plewicka asked Sanders why Republican messaging on social media seemed more effective than that of the Democrats.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the Republicans are effective,\u201d Sanders replied. \u201cThey have learned a lot about social media. And by the way, it doesn\u2019t hurt that their friends own all of the major social media platforms.\u201d <\/p>\n

The 84-year-old wrongly said that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos owns X, mistaking him for tech billionaire Elon Musk, which many MAGA social media users picked up on, with one calling him Biden 2.0<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The RapidResponse47 account missed the slip-up but posted<\/a> on X, \u201cCrazy Bernie thinks Republicans are more \u2018effective\u2019 at messaging on social media than Democrats because tech companies and the mainstream media are in the tank for us,\u201d adding a string of crying laughing emoticons.<\/p>\n

The White House\u2019s own X account<\/a> reposted the CNN video of Sanders talking about Republican social media clout with the caption \u201cGreat question.\u201d The account also superimposed one of their beloved sombreros on his head and added Latin music. <\/p>\n

Another student, Rohan Naval, asked Sanders how the shutdown reflected on the leadership of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it reflects more on [House Speaker] Mike Johnson\u2019s leadership and President Trump\u2019s leadership,\u201d Sanders said. <\/p>\n

When Naval shook his head at the senator\u2019s answer, Sanders said, \u201cHow do you feel, you tell me? You think it\u2019s a good idea to give a trillion dollars in tax breaks to the richest people in the country and then make massive cuts to healthcare for working-class people?\u201d<\/p>\n

Naval said, \u201cI think Chuck Schumer has voted for continuing resolutions 13 times in the last four years and he has the opportunity to vote for one again, but he\u2019s refusing to come to the table.\u201d<\/p>\n

That interaction prompted RapidResponse47 to post <\/a>on X, \u201cCrazy Bernie just got wrecked on national television.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Sanders was asked about ICE raids, he said President Donald Trump was using them to spread fear.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re a federal employee, don\u2019t speak up,\u201d Sanders said. \u201cIf you\u2019re a government official, don\u2019t speak up. You\u2019re in a law firm that somehow had clients taking on Trump, don\u2019t speak up. If you\u2019re on CNN, we\u2019re going to sue you if you ask the wrong questions. My friends, what this is about is a movement toward authoritarianism, intimidating us all.\u201d<\/p>\n

RapidResponse47 clapped back<\/a>, \u201cCrazy Bernie says ICE raids\u2014in which some of the most dangerous criminals on earth have been taken off American streets\u2014are \u2018about a movement toward authoritarianism,\u2019\u201d before calling him \u201cAbsolutely deranged.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bartender Bobbie Harms asked Sanders what he was doing to end the stalemate as the government shutdown continues.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to do everything we can to bring an end to this terrible shutdown,\u201d Sanders said, adding, \u201cWe have got to be cognizant that if Trump wins this fight, our health system could well collapse.\u201d<\/p>\n

RapidResponse47 reposted the footage<\/a>, adding, \u201cCrazy Bernie responds by admitting it\u2019s all about beating \u2018Trump,\u2019\u201d and claiming, \u201cThey want free healthcare for illegals.\u201d<\/p>\n

After Sanders fielded another question about the shutdown, White House communications director Steven Cheung entered the chat<\/a>, writing: \u201cThe Shutdown Democrats can\u2019t even get their message straight. When Wacky Bernie and AOC From the Block are the party\u2019s messengers, you know they are screwed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cheung also mocked AOC\u2019s slip of the tongue when she said<\/a> \u201cAir that is drinkable,\u201d and weighed in on Sanders pointing out to host Collins that media mogul Larry Ellison could possibly buy CNN.<\/p>\n

\u201cLOL!\u201d Cheung wrote on X<\/a>. \u201cEven Bernie knows CNN will be bought by the Ellisons!\u201d<\/p>\n

The Daily Beast has contacted the White House for comment.<\/p>\n
