\n\tMarc Maron<\/a> is setting the record straight again over what led to his former feud with\u00a0Jon Stewart<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe comedian and podcaster<\/a> recently chatted with Esquire\u2018s editor-in-chief Michael Sebastian <\/a>about his (one-sided) rivalry with The Daily Show host, admitting that it was \u201cfully fueled\u201d by his own \u201cinsecurity.\u201d He added, \u201cJon never did anything to me,\u201d and that he \u201cwas just jealous\u201d of Stewart and the career he had built.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhen I was coming up, he was this smart, cute Jewish guy,\u201d Maron said, adding that Stewart was a \u201cdisciplined careerist\u201d who understood how to \u201charness\u201d his talent and then \u201ccapitalize on it\u201d on his own terms.<\/p>\n

\n\tHowever, the WTF with Marc Maron host said of his early career days, \u201cI never had any control over my talent. I never knew its limitations or what it was. I was just all in and just demanding a place in the world of comedy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMaron has previously said the pair had a rocky relationship since the 1990s, when they were both trying to break out in the comedy scene. He had taken over Stewart\u2019s hosting duties on the Comedy Central show\u00a0Short Attention Span Theater, but it was canceled shortly after in 1994. Stewart went on to find more success hosting<\/a> The Daily Show, cementing his name in the comedy world, which only led Maron to resent him more.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThroughout my early career, Jon, who is roughly my age, was just everywhere,\u201d he told Sebastian. \u201cMy envy of him was always \u2026 I would just shit on him, and to his face. It was just consuming. I couldn\u2019t get through a week without him being on the cover of a magazine. For some reason, I saw him as, \u2018If I could only have my shit together, I could be more like that guy.\u2019 \u2026 Which wasn\u2019t true, because I was out of my mind, and I was definitely gunning for something else.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMaron admitted that he didn\u2019t even get \u201cinto comedy to be an entertainer or have a job as a talk show host or anything,\u201d but that he wanted \u201cto hold space and to speak my mind.\u201d He added, \u201cI loved comedy, so I thought I can do that in comedy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think I had a big belief in that I will eventually be who I am and I always was, but it was not whole until fairly recently,\u201d he continued. \u201cSo Jon really just represented that, and I was annoying to him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSebastian later asked Maron if he had ever tried to get Stewart on his WTF podcast, which just concluded its final episode<\/a> with former President Barack Obama.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI tried to get him on early on,\u201d the comedian responded, before recalling a moment when he was \u201ckind of apologizing\u201d to Stewart over the phone and telling him about his podcast. However, Maron said Stewart told him, \u201cWell, there\u2019s no love here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHe said, \u2018I might be willing to have coffee or something, but I\u2019m not doing that with you,\u2019\u201d Maron continued of the conversation. \u201cAnd then he said, \u2018I\u2019m sure what you\u2019re doing is very creative, and good luck with it.\u2019 Just the stinging condescension of that \u2026 it didn\u2019t help anything. And now he\u2019s doing a podcast.
