Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham\u2019s 2025 WNBA<\/a> campaign was cut short after a heartbreaking torn MCL. With other players like Caitlin Clark and Aari McDonald already injured, Cunningham\u2019s season-ending injury shook up the whole team\u2019s balance.<\/p>\n

The Fever were the anomaly during the playoffs as they reached the semi-finals. Cunningham \u2014 taking up a bench role \u2014 has been entirely focused on her rehab and recovery. Of course, not every day in recovery is the same.<\/p>\n

Indiana Fever Star Sophie Cunningham Spoke Up About Tough Rehab Day After MCL Injury<\/p>\n

In a recent Instagram story, Cunningham took some time to talk to her fans about her rehab journey. The WNBA veteran didn\u2019t mince words, sharing some heartbreaking insight into her recovery.<\/p>\n

While the 29-year-old is ready to focus on her healing, she emphasized the difficult road ahead.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just got done with rehab. Knee rehab, that is. I should clarify. It was one of those days that I could have kicked everyone in the face. I don\u2019t know why it was so hard today. Sometimes PFR is so easy. Like, you can breeze right through it. Like you get used to it,\u201d Cunningham said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201c(Like) Oh my gosh, you do 30 reps. Take a break, and you do 15, 15, and 15. So it\u2019s four sets of whatever exercise. And, no joke, today I struggle on every single one. It was rough. I need to go take a two-hour nap. And lay by the pool. But I can\u2019t. I have a huge, busy day today. This is great.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before her injury, Cunningham was averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and one steal per game in 2025.<\/p>\n

\u201cStill sitting here because I can\u2019t move,\u201d Cunningham added<\/a>. \u201cBut, I did shoot today for the first time!\u201d<\/p>\n

Cunningham did provide some positive news, which was about her finally shooting for practice. However, with her knee still out of commission, it\u2019s a long way to go before she returns to the court. Hopefully, Cunningham will be back by the 2026 season.<\/p>\n

Cunningham Picked Up the \u201cBench Coach\u201d Role After Her MCL Injury<\/p>\n

Following her injury, Cunningham\u2019s role with the team switched to that of a behind-the-scenes leader.<\/p>\n

Speaking on her \u201cShow Me Something\u201d podcast, Cunningham discussed her role as she said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s something that has actually been huge\u2026 Like just having a voice, just doing reminders, just pouring confidence into people,\u201d Cunningham explained<\/a>. \u201cBecause at this point, I think, everyone knows what the other team can do. And now it\u2019s just like, mentally making sure like we\u2019re there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cunningham elaborated on the same, revealing how she was focused on communicating with the team.<\/p>\n

However, after a successful 2025 season, one can only expect a better performance from the Fever \u2014 possibly aiming for the elusive WNBA title.<\/p>\n
