CLEVELAND, Ohio \u2014 Larry Williams, who was part of two AFC Championship Games with the Browns as an offensive lineman in the 1980s, died Thursday at age 62.<\/p>\n
His death was announced by the University of San Francisco, where he was the athletic director. Williams died while working out at a campus gym.<\/p>\n
Williams was exercising at War Memorial Gym at the Sobrato Center, which houses the university\u2019s athletic department, when he died. The university did not release the cause of death.<\/p>\n
He was a two-time All-American offensive lineman for Notre Dame and was drafted in the 10th round by the Browns in 1985. At left guard, he started 33 games for the Browns from 1986-88.<\/p>\n
He joined the Saints in free agency in 1989 and also spent a season with the Patriots.<\/p>\n
The athletic director had led USF\u2019s athletic department since July 2022, overseeing 250 student-athletes across the university\u2019s sports programs.<\/p>\n
Williams earned his law degree while playing in the NFL. His administrative career included serving as athletic director at the University of Portland from 2004-11, with subsequent positions at Marquette and Akron before joining USF.<\/p>\n
