\n OpenAI announced that it has \u201cpaused\u201d users\u2019 ability to generate videos of Martin Luther King Jr. on its artificial intelligence video tool Sora, following backlash over \u201cdisrespectful depictions.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cWhile there are strong free speech interests in depicting historical figures, OpenAI believes public figures and their families should ultimately have control over how their likeness is used,\u201d the company said in a Thursday statement posted on X<\/a>. \u201cAuthorized representatives or estate owners can request that their likeness not be used in Sora cameos.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n The change comes a few weeks after the launch of Sora 2<\/a>, which lets users make realistic-looking AI-generated videos using real and historical people. Critics charge that it\u2019s contributing to an era of misinformation and \u201cAI slop\u201d<\/a> that is blurring the lines between what\u2019s real and what\u2019s fake.\n <\/p>\n \n The product has also generated online discussion about ethics around the use of this technology. Some creators were using King\u2019s likeness for inappropriate purposes. Users recently recreated the late actor Robin Williams in AI videos, prompting his daughter Zelda to call them \u201cdisturbing<\/a>.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n OpenAI said it \u201cthanks Dr. Bernice A.
