The senior quarterback, whose cousin is former Notre Dame QB Jack Coan, is enjoying an undefeated season with his Golden Flashes as they attempt to go to 6-0 with a win against rival Westhampton this weekend.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery day is just a blast. Going out there, playing football, and having fun with your dogs,\u201d Coan, 17, told The Post of his teammates.<\/p>\n
Sayville, which went undefeated last year until a crushing 31-28 loss to juggernaut Garden City in the Long Island title game, has a chip on its shoulder to get the job done this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just reloaded with a great new group of guys, and we\u2019re all ready to play football,\u201d added the Lehigh commit. \u201cWe\u2019re just balling right now, and hoping to keep that going.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jack, now playing with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the CFL, has always been close with Patrick, showed him the ropes ahead of his senior year and continues to be a mentor.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe go down to the field and he teaches me footwork, reads, progressions, and everything. Every morning on the weekends, we\u2019d go down to the field, even when it\u2019s cold or warm,\u201d said Patrick.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s definitely a great trainer and a great mentor. He teaches the game very well.\u201d<\/p>\n

The older Coan, a class of 2017 grad who led the Flashes to an LI championship win in 2015 before playing at Wisconsin and later ND, is paying it forward to the entire varsity squad, too.<\/p>\n
\u201cSaskatchewan was on a bye, and he had flown into town, and he sent me a text, \u2018Hey, I\u2019d love to come to practice,\u2019 \u201d said head coach Robert Hoss, who has coached both of the cousins.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe said to me, \u2018Hey, Coach, can you add me to your Hudl account? I\u2019d love to watch practice and games\u2026 He wants to wear Sayville football gear. It\u2019s really cool, and our kids love to see that.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Patrick, in particular, is being motivated by the family presence that\u2019s shaking down the thunder on the South Shore, according to his coach.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s no doubt Patrick knows Jack is watching, and he is the ultimate positive guy. Even if he was going to give Patrick constructive feedback, it would always be in a positive way,\u201d Hoss said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving that connection, he can walk him through certain things \u2026 and I think that\u2019s helped Patrick tremendously.\u201d<\/p>\n
Now, the sights are set on the Flashes rewriting the script in what will be the younger Coan\u2019s last dance in Sayville.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t really focus on like the whole pressure thing,\u201d Patrick said. \u201cIt\u2019s just going out there having fun and playing football, which we all love to do.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Patrick Coan is leading Sayville onward to victory.
