Pat McAfee truly believed Kirby Smart was playing with everybody with the clapping timeout controversy last week.<\/p>\n
He found out real quick the Georgia coach was dead serious.<\/p>\n
\u201cRead my lips,\u201d Smart kept saying during a Friday appearance on \u201cThe Pat McAfee Show.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n McAfee appeared genuinely surprised by how serious Smart was.<\/p>\n In addition, Lane Kiffin blew up Smart\u2019s phone over the incident.<\/p>\n \u201cHe texted me,\u201d Smart said of the Ole Miss coach. \u201cI said, \u2018Do you read lips? No human being ever calls a timeout where he\u2019s saying, \u2018They\u2019re clapping. They\u2019re clapping. They\u2019re clapping.\u2019 I\u2019m repeatedly saying that with my lips and he\u2019s saying, \u2018I don\u2019t care about your lips.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Smart said Kiffin loved the incident and \u201cthought it was gonna be a good distraction Sunday and Monday.\u201d<\/p>\n It backfired, though, according to the Georgia coach.<\/p>\n \u201cHe did a great thing by coming out, blowing me up for being a fat guy with his language,\u201d <\/a>Smart explained. \u201cHe took all the attention with that.\u201d<\/p>\n On Monday, during a press conference, it was pointed out that both Kiffin and Smart are animated on the sidelines. Of the two, who burns more calories?<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d Kiffin said Monday<\/a>. \u201cThat\u2019s a good question. I walked by the TV and saw his press conference today. Doesn\u2019t look like he\u2019s burned too many calories. But he does have a lot of energy games and he coaches really passionately.\u201d<\/p>\n On Saturday, Smart appeared to signal for a timeout with just more than 13 minutes left in the 20-10 win over Auburn as the play clock was winding down and facing a third-and-9. The Bulldogs, at the time, were trailing Auburn by three.<\/p>\n \u201cYeah, they\u2019re clapping, so I told them before the game, \u2018If these guys clap, it\u2019s a penalty,\u2019\u201d Smart said in the postgame press conference. <\/a>\u201cThey can\u2019t clap, because we\u2019ll false snap. I\u2019ve lost games on that before in this stadium.
