{"id":232801,"date":"2025-10-18T01:49:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-18T01:49:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/232801\/"},"modified":"2025-10-18T01:49:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-18T01:49:14","slug":"fund-of-50k-to-help-fight-climate-change-impacts-in-surrey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/232801\/","title":{"rendered":"Fund of \u00a350k to help fight climate change impacts in Surrey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Funding is available to support environmental initiatives in Surrey to combat the growing impact of climate change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Surrey County Council said community groups and parish and town councils could apply for a share of \u00a350,000 to help restore habitats, enhance green spaces, reduce flooding and wildfires, and improve air quality.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">The council said Surrey&#8217;s environmental challenges included a 200% year-on-year increase in outdoor fires between June 2024 and June 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Marisa Heath, cabinet member for environment, said that &#8220;11.5% of our native species are thought to be locally extinct, with more species declining in number&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">&#8220;We know communities are in making local improvements, which is why we are offering this funding opportunity so they can tackle the impact of climate change,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">More than 50,000 homes are projected to be at risk of flooding within the next 25 years, double the number at risk today, according to the council.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 bJoRPJ\">Grants ranging from \u00a3500 to \u00a35,000 are available to applicants and the deadline is  7 November. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Funding is available to support environmental initiatives in Surrey to combat the growing impact of climate change.
