<\/a>Heavy rainfall Sept. 17, 2024, flooded streets in Kona. (Photo File: Courtesy of Michael Kelly)<\/p>\nRadar and automated rain gauges indicated at 5:05 p.m. that heavy rain was falling over the lower slopes of North Kona at a rate of up to 1 inch per hour.<\/p>\n
Some locations that will experience flooding include Kailua-Kona, Kalaoa, Pu\u02bbu Anahulu, H\u014dlualoa, Kahalu\u02bbu-Keauhou and Kona International Airport.<\/p>\n
Minor flooding on roads and in poor drainage areas and streams can be expected.<\/p>\n

The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.<\/p>\n
Hawai\u2018i County Civil Defense advises residents in the advisory areas:<\/p>\n
Flooding can be life-threatening.<\/p>\n
Remain alert for flooding conditions.<\/p>\n
Drive with caution.<\/p>\n
Be on alert for runoff, ponding of water, debris and poor visibility.<\/p>\n
Do not attempt to cross flowing water in a vehicle or on foot; turn around, don\u2019t drown.<\/p>\n
Remember, if lightning threatens your area, the safest place to be is indoors.<\/p>\n
This advisory also might need to be extended if flooding persists.<\/p>\n
