CBS late-night host Stephen Colbert<\/a>, who will be out of a job next May, poked fun at his network\u2019s new boss, David Ellison, on Thursday.<\/p>\n

During his opening monologue, \u201cThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert\u201d host made a sarcastic dig at\u00a0David Ellison<\/a>, marking National Boss\u2019s Day with a jab at the Paramount Skydance CEO.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to take a moment to celebrate my new boss, Paramount CEO David Ellison: Mr. Ellison, I love you,\u201d Colbert said while looking into his \u201cDavid Ellison Appreciation Cam.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ellison, previously CEO of Skydance Media, was named CEO of new joint company Paramount Skydance <\/a>when his company merged with Paramount in August.<\/p>\n

The merger between Skydance and CBS\u2019s parent company came one month after CBS announced it would\u00a0end Colbert\u2019s show\u00a0at the end of the current season in May 2026<\/a>, citing financial reasons.<\/p>\n

During Thursday\u2019s episode, the host joked that flattering Ellison might help him keep his show on the air a little longer.<\/p>\n

He began, \u201cI join you tonight in a celebratory mood because, as you know, today is National Boss\u2019s Day. I hope you all treated your boss to their favorite gift \u2014 two minutes of awkward chitchat until the elevator arrives. Remember to say your kids\u2019 names so they don\u2019t have to.\u201d<\/p>\n

After telling Ellison, \u201cI love you,\u201d Colbert winked and said, \u201cThat oughta buy us a couple more months.\u201d<\/p>\n

Colbert\u00a0had previously called out his employer, alleging that CBS and Paramount gave in to Trump to secure regulatory approval for their merger with Skydance. T.JACKSON \/ BACKGRID<\/p>\n

The announcement that Colbert\u2019s show would end next year followed the network\u2019s $16 million settlement <\/a>with President\u00a0Donald Trump\u00a0in July, stemming from his lawsuit over an edited 2024 interview with then\u2013Vice President Kamala Harris on \u201c60 Minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time, Colbert\u00a0called out his own employer\u00a0on his show, alleging that CBS and Paramount gave in to Trump to secure regulatory approval for their merger with Skydance<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cI believe this kind of complicated financial sentiment with a sitting government official has a technical name in legal circles. It\u2019s \u2018big fat bribe,\u2019 because it all comes as Paramount\u2019s owners are trying to get the Trump administration to approve the sale of our network to a new owner, Skydance!\u201d<\/p>\n
