KNOXVILLE, Tenn. \u2014 UT Men’s basketball head coach Rick Barnes has been named the recipient of the prestigious Pat Summitt Lifetime Achievement Award. The honor recognizes individuals who embody the values and legacy of the legendary Lady Vols coach: leadership, excellence, integrity and an unwavering commitment to student-athletes.<\/p>\n
Barnes, who took the helm of the University of Tennessee men\u2019s basketball program in 2015, has left a powerful mark on the program during his tenure. Over nearly a decade in Knoxville, he has amassed 232 victories, becoming one of the winningest coaches in program history. His steady leadership and dedication to developing both players and culture have elevated Tennessee into a national contender.<\/p>\n
Under Barnes\u2019 guidance, the Volunteers have made two Elite Eight appearances and reached the Sweet 16 four times, milestones that reflect his ability to prepare teams for high-level competition. His teams have also excelled in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), capturing\u00a0three conference titles \u2014\u00a0two regular season championships and one SEC Tournament title.<\/p>\n
