An Australian internet provider has reported \u201csuspicious activity\u201d as they become the latest telco to face a cybersecurity incident.<\/p>\n
Vocus, which is the parent company for Dodo and iPrimus, said in a statement that 1600 home internet and mobile customers had been affected by a hack on the businesses email and mobile services.<\/p>\n
In a cyber incident that began on Friday night, Vocus were alerted to \u201csuspicious activity\u201d in their email system.<\/p>\n

The internet provider suspended its services in a bid to rectify the problem.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur initial investigation has revealed unauthorised access to approximately 1,600 email accounts, leading to unauthorised SIM swaps on 34 Dodo Mobile accounts,\u201d a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have worked with impacted customers to reverse these SIM swaps and we continue to monitor this situation.\u201d<\/p>\n
The telco said its teams continued to work on the breach on Saturday, before restoring email services to customers.<\/p>\n
By 7am on Sunday, email services had been restored, although customers would need to ring up their service provider and change their password.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe continue to update our customers through our website and social media channels and will be offering additional support to our customers through IDCare,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe apologise for the inconvenience caused by the temporary suspension of email services while we prioritised security.\u201d<\/p>\n
Vocus is the fourth largest provider of the National Broadband Network, with 9.2 per cent of the market share trailing Telstra, TPG and Optus.<\/p>\n
