October\u2019s big horror movie,\u00a0Black Phone 2<\/a>, has opened strong\u00a0for Blumhouse, and took home #1 at the box office.<\/p>\n

Per Deadline<\/a>, the sequel to Universal\u2019s 2022 horror hit made $42 million worldwide, with $26.5 million of it coming from North America. Both takes are slightly above the respective $23.3 million (domestic) and $35.8 million (global) of its predecessor\u2019s start<\/a>, and give Blumhouse a much-needed win after its earlier horror flicks in 2025 like M3GAN 2.0\u00a0and\u00a0Wolf Man\u00a0underperformed.<\/p>\n

Directed again by Scott Derrickson and starring much of the first film\u2019s cast\u2014Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, and Miguel Cazarez Mora\u2014Black Phone 2\u00a0sees Hawke\u2019s child-abducting Grabber dead<\/a>, but terrorizing the kids who defeated him via another black phone stationed at a kids camp. The first movie was based off a short story by Joe Hill, but the story for this one is wholly original, and reception to this sequel has been generally positive.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Tron: Ares\u00a0fell 65% in North America, adding another $11.1 million for a new domestic total of $54.6 million. Disney\u2019s legacy threequel didn\u2019t fare much better internationally; it earned another $14.1 million, but did not land at all with Chinese audiences in its debut weekend. With its new $103 million global total, it\u2019s looking likely that the series won\u2019t have much of a future<\/a> going forward. As for\u00a0Guillermo del Toro\u2019s Frankenstein,\u00a0Netflix hasn\u2019t shared any box office numbers yet, but that tune may change as its limited (and slightly confusing) release<\/a> expands to other theaters next weekend.<\/p>\n

Speaking of \u201cnext weekend,\u201d we\u2019ve got Yorgos Lanthimos\u2019 comedy flick\u00a0Bugonia<\/a>, Tina Romero\u2019s Queens of the Dead<\/a>, and Chris Stuckmann\u2019s horror debut Shelby Oaks<\/a>\u00a0all hitting theaters on October 24. Halloween weekend doesn\u2019t have any genre films, but November 7 has Predator: Badlands<\/a>.<\/p>\n
