Allows us to bask in the glow of a new Daily Show<\/a> that doesn\u2019t include commentary on the most nauseating news stories our backsliding democracy has to offer. The No Kings protests saw some 7 million Americans take to the streets in their best inflatable frog costumes to stand against authoritarianism, and that gave Jon Stewart a lot to smile about. After weeks of listening to Mike Johnson talk to us like we\u2019re idiots, claiming that the \u201chardest core\u201d of Marxists would be wreaking havoc across the fracturing United States, No Kings Day went off without a hitch, with 2,700 events held throughout the country, making it one of the largest single-day protests in history. Even more surprising, as Stewart points out, \u201czero mass shootings.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, as the fearmongering from the Republican Party was replaced by Grantifa, the conservatives pivoted. Instead of calling the inflatable unicorns terrorists, they feigned surprise at the allegations that Trump was in any way a monarch. Thankfully, Stewart always carries a colonial wig and a copy of the Declaration of Independence with him. While Trump probably isn\u2019t beating the label, especially after bulldozing the East Wing of the White House for a tacky ballroom<\/a>, Stewart hit on a better word for how Republicans view the president: Deity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ironic part about Republicans complaining that he is being dubbed a king is that in their minds, he has already surpassed that title anyway and moved on to a much higher calling,\u201d Stewart says. \u201cHe\u2019s not a king. He\u2019s a deity, sent by God to bring peace to all of mankind, a Jesus-like figure. I mean, I get it. There is a lot of crossover.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cutting to talking heads describing President Trump as a \u201cmiracle worker\u201d who is saving Christianity, Stewart delighted in the absurd sycophantic surrogates begging for Trump to notice them. (Poor, Eric.) More importantly, he played a quick game of \u201cJesus or Trump\u201d to figure out if Trump is merely a king or the King of Kings. It\u2019s a harder game than you\u2019d think.<\/p>\n

It was nice to have some good news for a change, and as a treat, here\u2019s Stewart\u2019s interview with Senator Bernie Sanders, who put it all much more succinctly: These are religious people, and their religion is greed.<\/p>\n
