{"id":241021,"date":"2025-10-21T12:45:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-21T12:45:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/241021\/"},"modified":"2025-10-21T12:45:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T12:45:09","slug":"malnourished-orphaned-baby-walrus-rescued-from-a-life-of-isolation-by-alaska-sanctuary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/241021\/","title":{"rendered":"Malnourished Orphaned Baby Walrus Rescued From a Life of Isolation by Alaska Sanctuary"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p>In a heartfelt clip from the <a href=\"https:\/\/laughingsquid.com\/?s=PBS\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener nofollow\">PBS<\/a> series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wnet\/nature\/preview-of-walrus-life-on-thin-ice-t295jy\/33391\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener nofollow\">Walrus: Life on Thin Ice<\/a>, an orphaned baby <a href=\"https:\/\/laughingsquid.com\/?s=walrus\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener nofollow\">walrus<\/a> who fended for herself on a rocky island in north Alaska, was rescued from a short life of isolation by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alaskasealife.org\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener nofollow\">Alaska Sealife Center<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seward.com\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener nofollow\">Seward<\/a>. This beautiful little calf, named Little Miss Walrus, was in bad shape, she had cuts on her body and suffered from malnutrition. Luckily, according to one of her caretakers, she took to the bottle immediately.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m pretty confident this calf would not have made it. She was clearly alone for a period of time. She was already malnourished. But the biggest sigh of relief I have was her being good about taking food from a bottle.It makes a world of difference.<\/p>\n<p>Little Miss Walrus has since thrived. She particularly loves the pool.<\/p>\n<p>Since she arrived here, Little Miss Walrus has put on 60 pounds. She\u2019s ready to make a bigger splash. She really likes to do this little, throw yourself into the pool backwards thing.
