Entertainment critic and artiste manager Kwesi Ernest has criticised William Kusi, the legal representative for Daddy Lumba\u2019s wife, Akosua Serwaa, for describing the late musician\u2019s other partner, Odo Broni, as a ‘slay queen’ during ongoing legal proceedings.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Peace FM, Kwesi Ernest questioned what gave the lawyer the authority to use such language against Odo Broni, describing his conduct as unprofessional and unbecoming of a legally trained individual.<\/p>\n

Can a slay queen be a widow? – Akosua Serwaa’s lawyer asks<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThe lawyer seems to be playing the role of both a lawyer and a judge. From the way he speaks and carries himself, it\u2019s as if he\u2019s already passed judgment before the court even does. His utterances and the way he refers to Odo Broni in certain contexts, that\u2019s not how a legally trained gentleman should speak to a woman. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t go on public platforms and refer someone as a slay queen, it doesn’t work like that as a lawyer. I don\u2019t know where he gets his authority from,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Kwesi Ernest further cautioned William Kusi to be mindful of his words, particularly when referring to the family of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba. <\/p>\n

He noted that even if Akosua Serwaa were to win the case, the execution of traditional widowhood rites would still require cooperation with the Fosuh family, adding that public disrespect could complicate matters beyond the courtroom.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven if he manages to win the case for Akosua Serwaa, Daddy Lumba\u2019s wife will still have to work directly with the Fosu family head to perform the widowhood rites. He needs to watch his words and stay focused on the legal case before him instead of getting involved in matters outside his mandate,\u201d Kwesi Ernest added.<\/p>\n

Recently, following the court proceedings on October 16, 2025, William Kusi, questioned the legitimacy of Odo Broni\u2019s claim in the widowhood dispute.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the media, he challenged her suitability, stating: \u201cI ask, can a slay queen be a widow? I\u2019m asking the Akans, can a slay queen perform widowhood rites? So slay queens and people who snatch other women\u2019s husbands have no business with widowhood rites,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The legal dispute stems from Akosua Serwaa\u2019s assertion that she is the only lawful and surviving spouse of the late Daddy Lumba. <\/p>\n

She has petitioned the Kumasi High Court to officially affirm her status and to restrain the head of the Lumba family, Kofi Owusu Fosuh, from recognising or engaging with the second defendant, Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni, as a wife of the deceased.<\/p>\n

She is also seeking a court order to prevent Odo Broni from publicly presenting herself as Daddy Lumba\u2019s surviving spouse.<\/p>\n

The case, presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur at Kumasi High Court 5, has been adjourned to October 28, 2025.<\/p>\n
