The multi-Oscar-nominated director\u2019s sequel just got supercharged with a $37.2 million tax incentive award from the Golden State.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWith the new pumped up tax credit program of $750 million annually, the Heat sequel \u2014 <a data-id=\"1236572358\" data-type=\"post\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/10\/amazon-mgm-studios-united-artists-heat-2-leonardo-dicaprio-1236572358\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">now at United Artists<\/a> after years of development and a bestselling 2022 novel \u2014 was joined by 51 other projects announced Tuesday for the incentive that is estimated to inject $1.4 billion into California\u2019s economy via a combination of spending and wages. In total, the over four dozen films received $342 million in tax credits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAmong the other feature films allocated tax credits today is a new Jumanji flick and <a data-id=\"1236587472\" data-type=\"post\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/10\/daniels-movie-release-date-1236587472\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the new film<\/a> from the Oscar-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once directing duo <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/the-daniels\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-daniels\" data-tag=\"the-daniels\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Daniels<\/a> \u2013 which had previously been allocated about $20 million. With a surge in applications from the equivalent round last year under the then-$330 million program, there\u2019s also a Blumhouse adaptation of the Sunday novel plus the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/eva-longoria\/\" id=\"auto-tag_eva-longoria\" data-tag=\"eva-longoria\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eva Longoria<\/a>-directed The Fifth Wheel from Netflix, a <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/bill-murray\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bill-murray\" data-tag=\"bill-murray\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Murray<\/a> and Kristen Wiig starrer, and The\u00a0Incredible\u00a0Heist\u00a0of\u00a0Hallelujah\u00a0Jones produced\u00a0by\u00a0Taika\u00a0Waititi\u00a0and starring Janelle Mon\u00e1e, to name a few.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe 52 films, from both studios and independents, are expected to see around 8,900\u00a0cast\u00a0and\u00a0crew\u00a0hired in total, with 46,400 background performers (measured in days worked) over 1,664 filming days statewide. Getting specific, check out the tax incentive allocations each film is conditionally getting, plus the spending and employment reach they are expected to have:<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-deadline-2019\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/CFC-Approved-Film-Projects-Media-List-10.2025-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"815\" width=\"1024\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWith jobs as it primary criteria, the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/california-film-commission\/\" id=\"auto-tag_california-film-commission\" data-tag=\"california-film-commission\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">California Film Commission<\/a>-administered film and TV incentives program was <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/07\/california-film-tax-credit-program-changes-approved-1236448958\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">more than doubled <\/a>earlier this year with<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/10\/california-tax-credits-increase-gavin-newsom-1236159331\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Gov. Gavin Newsom\u2019s proposal to hike the credits to $750 million annually<\/a> to keep and lure projects to the home of Hollywood. As has been the case since the programs dumped its lottery format and increase the allocation to $300 million in 2014, the credits are broken up under various categories, with relocating series a big bragging point.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-deadline-2019\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Screen-Shot-2025-10-15-at-11.15.49-AM.png\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"643\" width=\"1024\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cThe film and television industry is the cornerstone of California\u2019s creative economy \u2013 revitalizing the job opportunities, business growth and economic prosperity\u00a0for\u00a0families,\u201d Newsom said this morning as the allocations, which most of the lucky filmmakers have known about for about a week, became public. \u201cThese\u00a0investments\u00a0reaffirm\u00a0that\u00a0California\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0just\u00a0where stories are told, it\u2019s where the future of storytelling is built,\u201d the Democrat added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tUnveiled with several other projects, including the Untitled <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/mike-mills\/\" id=\"auto-tag_mike-mills\" data-tag=\"mike-mills\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Mills<\/a> project that received the top allocation of $39.6 million this round, the hefty 30% allocation earmarked for Heat 2 will allow<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/10\/amazon-mgm-studios-united-artists-heat-2-leonardo-dicaprio-1236572358\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> the United Artists-distributed<\/a> prequel\/sequel to the 1995 crime classic to film a significant portion of the movie in Los Angeles, which is where the original Heat was set and shot. With reports that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/leonardo-dicaprio\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Leonardo DiCaprio<\/a>\u00a0is distinctly interested in playing the role of Chris Shiherlis, the character played by the late great <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/val-kilmer\/\" id=\"auto-tag_val-kilmer\" data-tag=\"val-kilmer\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Val Kilmer<\/a> in the original, Heat 2\u2018s approximate budget is $150 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tOnce at Warner Bros and now with the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/amazon\/\" id=\"auto-tag_amazon\" data-tag=\"amazon\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Amazon<\/a>-owned UA, the Mann-written and -directed Heat 2 draws from the era-jumping novel he co-authored with Meg Gardiner and Heat itself. For those of you who don\u2019t know a masterpiece when you saw it, the 1995 film\u00a0starred not only Kilmer but also repped the first on-screen meet-up between <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/al-pacino\/\" id=\"auto-tag_al-pacino\" data-tag=\"al-pacino\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Al Pacino<\/a> (who played LAPD Detective Vincent Hanna) and <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/robert-de-niro\/\" id=\"auto-tag_robert-de-niro\" data-tag=\"robert-de-niro\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Robert De Niro<\/a> (as master thief Neil McCauley).<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-deadline-2019\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/PACINO-DENIRO.jpg\" alt=\"Al Pacino Robert De niro\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"814\" width=\"1024\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t(L-R Al Pacino and Robert De Niro on the set of \u2018Heat\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFrank Connor Courtesy Michael Mann<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAwarded its tax credits under Mann\u2019s Forward Pass, Inc., Heat 2 is produced by Mann, <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/jerry-bruckheimer\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jerry-bruckheimer\" data-tag=\"jerry-bruckheimer\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jerry Bruckheimer<\/a>, Scott Stuber, Nick Nesbitt and EPs Shane Salerno and Eric Roth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tOverall, with more than $104.6 million anticipated in qualified expenditures, the state is looking to get a pretty decent return on its Heat 2 investment.
