It was hard to imagine the season would end up where it is for Florida State<\/a> after their Week 1 upset over Alabama<\/a>. Here the Seminoles are, though, with a losing record after dropping their first four ACC games of the season, including a cross-country trip to Stanford<\/a>.<\/p>\n

One person who never minded gloating about Florida State\u2019s shortcomings during his career is Steve Spurrier<\/a>. Best known for his time as the Florida<\/a> head coach, Spurrier appeared on Another Dooley Noted Podcast after the week of action. There, he shared his brief reaction to the Florida State loss.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot really too much,\u201d Steve Spurrier said<\/a>. \u201cYeah, FSU losing out at Stanford was amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Florida State would fall 20-13 on the road against Stanford. In a game not without controversy, it appeared as though the Seminoles scored what would have been the tying touchdown during an untimed down to end the game. It was close but ruled short on the field, which no camera angle could prove should be overturned. In the end, the Seminoles scored just three points in the second half. <\/p>\n

For Florida State head coach Mike Norvell<\/a>, it was the latest in a string of struggles. He\u2019s now just 5-14 in his last two seasons at Florida State and hasn\u2019t won an ACC game since September of 2024. Unsurprisingly, his hot seat is burning, even amid a vote of confidence from athletic director Michael Alford.<\/p>\n

As we continue to move forward this season, our comprehensive assessment of the football program will be completed at season\u2019s end. Meanwhile, we are fully committed to helping Coach Novell and the 2025 Seminoles strongly rebound in the coming weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, the focus for Mike Norvell and Florida State is going to be on righting the ship. It won\u2019t be easy to do, but there is still an opportunity to get back to a bowl game and finish the year out on a positive note. The Seminoles have a bye week to regroup.
