Carson Daly<\/a> felt his heart sink like the titanic.<\/p>\n

The television host, 52, is recounting a time early on in his career where he made a mistake while reading\u00a0Leonardo DiCaprio\u2019s<\/a> name off a teleprompter.<\/p>\n

During Today\u2019s\u00a0Fan Fest<\/a>\u00a0on Monday, Daly was asked by Andy Cohen about on-air bloopers. <\/p>\n

\u201cI was new here too, I wasn\u2019t used to the teleprompter,\u201d Daly recounted, \u201cand I said \u2014 the story about Leonardo [DiCaprio] \u2014\u00a0and I said \u2018Leonardo DeCrapio.’\u201d<\/p>\n

The star\u2019s co-hosts, Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin, erupted in laughter. <\/p>\n

Daly confessed that the incident has stuck with him all these years later.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd to this day, when I see Leonardo\u2019s name in the prompter, my heartbeat starts to go,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Just last month, DiCaprio, 50, revealed on Jason and Travis Kelce\u2019s \u201cNew Heights<\/a>\u201d podcast that he was asked to change his name early on in his career<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cI finally got an agent, they said, \u2018Your name is too ethnic,\u2019\u201d the actor explained. \u201cI go, \u2018What do you mean? It\u2019s Leonardo DiCaprio.\u2019 They go, \u2018No, too ethnic. They\u2019re never going to hire you. Your new name is Lenny Williams.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n

He remembered asking, \u201cWhat is Lenny?\u201d<\/p>\n

When DiCaprio\u2019s father, George DiCaprio, got wind of the idea he replied: \u201cOver my dead body.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI just remember my dad saying, \u2018You know, some day you\u2019re going to have your time, son. Just keep at it. Keep at it.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n

And DiCaprio did, starring in various hit movies, including \u201cWhat\u2019s Eating Gilbert Grape\u201d in 1993, \u201cRomeo + Juliet\u201d in 1996 and\u00a0\u201cTitanic\u201d in 1997.<\/p>\n

While on the podcast, the SAG Award winner told Jason, 37, and Travis, 36, that he considers starring in \u201cThis Boy\u2019s Life\u201d with Robert De Niro in 1993 at 16 years old as the \u201cbig \u2018oh wow\u2019 moment\u201d of his career.<\/p>\n

DiCaprio also said he knew he \u201cwanted to be an actor very, very young,\u201d noting he would imitate his parents\u2019 friends at just 4 years old. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Oscar winner recently opened up about what his next \u201cchapter\u201d of life looks like.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m slowing down a bit,\u201d DiCaprio\u00a0told People<\/a>\u00a0last month.<\/p>\n

Although he isn\u2019t stepping back from acting, the \u201cRevenant\u201d star plans to be pickier with the roles he chooses.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen these opportunities come up, I mean, I can\u2019t say no,\u201d DiCaprio explained about working on his new movie, \u201cOne Battle After Another\u201d with director Paul Thomas Anderson.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Starring in the comedy\/adventure felt like the right move.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think anytime would\u2019ve been the right time, to be honest,\u201d DiCaprio explained. \u201cEver since I met Paul early on and I saw\u00a0\u2018Boogie Nights,\u2019 I\u2019ve been an obsessive fan of his work, watched all his movies.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cHis films ruminate in my mind and they\u2019re conversation pieces with my friends, they last.\u201d<\/p>\n

As DiCaprio put it: \u201cawards can come and go.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAccolades, box office can come and go, but those pieces of art, that you still talk about and still think about and still question,\u201d he expressed. \u201cThose are the films that we strive for as an actor.
