LOS ANGELES, Oct 21 (Reuters) – Fans arrived for an early screening of the absurdist sci-fi comedy film \u201cBugonia,\u201d on Monday night in Los Angeles with one unique condition\u2014the theater only admitted bald people.<\/a><\/p>\n

The film\u2019s distributor, Focus Features, challenged audiences to shave their heads to see \u201cBugonia,\u201d starring Oscar-winning actor Emma Stone.<\/p>\n

Stone shared her thoughts<\/a> about the out-there screening dare during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at the film\u2019s Tuesday night premiere in New York City.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just assume that it\u2019s people who already wanted to shave their heads and were like, \u2018OK, I could just do that at home or I could just see a movie right after,\u2019 you know what I mean,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s a good time. It\u2019s just a good time if you\u2019re already wanting to shave your head.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stone and Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos gained a powerful fanbase after teaming up for Oscar-nominated films \u201cPoor Things\u201d and \u201cThe Favourite.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBugonia\u201d will be released in select theaters on Friday and then across the U.S. on October 31.<\/p>\n

In \u201cBugonia,\u201d Stone plays a powerful pharmaceutical CEO named Michelle Fuller, who is kidnapped by two conspiracy theorist-cousins who are convinced that she\u2019s an alien – so much so, they shave her head.<\/p>\n

With a barber in the foyer, fans like Sam Sherman from Los Angeles stepped up to get their buzz cut to gain entry to the screening.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was already thinking of shaving my head,\u201d Sherman said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw, like, a post about this and I was like, that\u2019s a perfect excuse because I want to see \u2018Bugonia\u2019 anyway and I get to see it two weeks early or whatever it is, and then I get a free haircut and a free movie. It\u2019s hard to say no to that,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Matthew Lopez, 29, from Los Angeles, thought the bald screening inspired by Stone\u2019s shaved head was a great idea.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s almost feeling immersive, like, ok, \u2018I did it, she did it.\u2019 I can feel some connection to the story,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

For Richard Chong, 36, it was a chance to appease his friends and family.<\/p>\n

\u201cI like the director. I think he\u2019s really good, very weird and my friends hate my bowl cut, so this is for them, also my wife, she really hates it,\u201d Chong said.<\/p>\n
