The work\u2014based on Sentinel-1 satellite data\u2014suggests either a change in the hydrothermal system or movement of magma. Locals reported sulfurous fumes in 2023, with odors detected up to roughly 30 miles away. \u201cIt has to release somehow in the future, either violently or more quietly,\u201d volcanologist Pablo Gonz\u00e1lez told <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/planet-earth\/volcanos\/an-iranian-volcano-appears-to-have-woken-up-700-000-years-after-its-last-eruption&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/planet-earth\/volcanos\/an-iranian-volcano-appears-to-have-woken-up-700-000-years-after-its-last-eruption\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/planet-earth\/volcanos\/an-iranian-volcano-appears-to-have-woken-up-700-000-years-after-its-last-eruption\">Live Science<\/a>, stressing there is no sign of an imminent eruption but urging closer monitoring.
