\n\tJon M. Chu<\/a> is ready to jump back into the world of Crazy Rich Asians<\/a> as he awaits a go-ahead on production.<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing his 2018 feature adaptation of Kevin Kwan<\/a>\u2018s book, the director recently shared an update on the HBO Max<\/a> series, explaining why it\u2019s \u201chard to do\u201d a continuation of the movie starring Henry Golding<\/a> and Constance Wu<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a real thing,\u201d he told Esquire<\/a>. \u201cWe have scripts, and we\u2019re waiting to be officially ready to go.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tChu added, \u201cIt\u2019s hard to do the continuation of the books, because our characters changed so much in the first movie. It\u2019s so different [from] the books, actually, even though it feels like it\u2019s the same. So you couldn\u2019t go one-to-one. But we can use a lot of inspiration from the book to dig out more story from it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAlthough no actors have been confirmed to reprise their roles, Chu has no doubt \u201cour cast will be there\u201d when the show is ready to begin production.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Warner Bros. TV series previously opened a development room<\/a> led by executive producer and showrunner Adele Lim, who penned the movie with Peter Chiarelli. Chu and Kwan also serve as executive producers on the show.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs of February, the original cast was in unofficial chats about returning. A source told Deadline the series will not replace the long-awaited sequel of the 2018 film, but will be based on the same book series.<\/p>\n

\n\tNominated for the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture \u2014 Musical or Comedy, Crazy Rich Asians grossed more than $239 million globally, breaking several box office records.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe movie stars Wu as Rachel Chu, an NYU professor who accompanies her longtime boyfriend Nick (Golding) to his best friend\u2019s wedding in Singapore, where she learns he\u2019s from an extremely wealthy family and considered the country\u2019s most eligible bachelor.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Jon M.
