How they impact CT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Seventy-two people will be laid off.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cvshealth.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">It comes as CVS Health<\/a> is laying off dozens of employees that report to the Hartford headquarters of its Aetna health insurance business, a round of job cuts touched off by the loss of a contract involving government health care programs for seniors.<\/p>\n<p>CVS said it would layoff 72 workers after losing a contract for its Aetna Medicare Medicaid Program in 2026, affecting employees that are working remotely in three states \u2014 Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky, according to a<a href=\"https:\/\/dolpublicdocumentlibrary.ct.gov\/advanceSearch\/ViewBlob?blobToken=cjJqR2M5MHBNbGY5bnkyRFJVbHlYeWpUbHBDQXpVSXVFSFZETU5KS1JVNmRBTHFseUYvckI0TnpUdDc4cVcwWFhKUUUwYktEeUhRV0t2RTVvM1VjSjBPVlhTek5ia2ZuZlRiZW1wQngxZ0FURUpQbDZBaW1VSlVSQ2RmM01JOXV2d0lNYmVDWUNxV01mQlhGRVN2YzJjNlNnTGt5bklvZlgrZG1HM3JBdHBYaW04R20zeXE2OSs2U0NRb0pvYVVTdFhHbVFLZnF4WEQybm9hQzdYK2RKRkJCSmk4L0hRZ0VwR3N3akc2bmw1WmlzdFZ0V3BvTWhZWVZqU0VIVUxzSw%3D%3D&amp;blobName=CVS%20Health%20(Hartford-remote)%2010-17-2025.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> notice<\/a> filed recently with the <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.ct.gov\/dol?language=en_US\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Connecticut labor department<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The majority of the jobs \u2014 44 \u2014 are listed as \u201ccase manager RN \u2014 field\u201d and are located in Ohio. The layoffs are expected to become effective between Dec. 31 and March 31.<\/p>\n<p>The job cuts are expected to be permanent. None of the remote workers losing their jobs are based in Connecticut, but they do report to managers at Aetna\u2019s headquarters at 151 Farmington Ave. in Hartford.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement Tuesday, Woonsocket, R.I.-based CVS said it was told in late 2024 by the<a href=\"https:\/\/medicaid.ohio.gov\/news\/press-release\/odm-nextgen-mycare-ohio-plans\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Ohio Department of Medicaid<\/a> that Aetna was not selected for a new contract to support beneficiaries dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid.<\/p>\n<p>The coverage was provided through the state\u2019s Next Generation MyCare Ohio program.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Insurer Aetna -- owned by CVS Health Corp. since 2018 -- has been headquartered in Asylum Hill since the 1930s. (Aaron Flaum\/Hartford Courant)<\/p>\n<p>The layoffs are another in a string of CVS job cuts affecting Hartford, either directly or indirectly.<\/p>\n<p>In April, the health care giant said it would cut 55 jobs \u2014 all but one living outside of Connecticut but reporting to the Aetna headquarters in Hartford. Those layoffs were tied to the winding down of its Aetna CareFree line of business. Aetna CareFree offers Medicare plans and services to agents who sell health insurance.<\/p>\n<p>The layoffs follow<a href=\"https:\/\/www.courant.com\/2025\/04\/29\/cvs-health-laying-off-more-employees-out-of-hartford-a-drip-drip-drip-of-significant-job-losses\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> a sweeping announcement in September, 2024<\/a> that CVS planned to slash 2,900 corporate jobs nationwide, as it struggled with rising medical costs and shifted its focus to its core, or mainstay businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Since that announcement, layoffs of hundreds of employees locally \u2014 a mix of those working in Hartford and those reporting to the Aetna headquarters \u2014 have been disclosed to the state labor department.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the employment reductions, Aetna has said publicly to its committed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courant.com\/2025\/04\/27\/at-ct-insurers-headquarters-city-tax-coffers-take-big-hit-that-campus-is-a-concern-official\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">maintaining a corporate presence in Hartford<\/a> and throughout the state of Connecticut.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the breakdown of the layoffs and where they are located:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"(CVS\/Aetna)\" width=\"668\" data- src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/thc-l-hartford-cvs-aetna-layoff-chart.jpg\" data-attachment-id=\"8873262\" \/>(CVS\/Aetna)<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Tony Hwang, ranking senator on the legislature\u2019s Insurance and Real Estate Committee, and Sen. Stephen Harding, said in a statement about the layoffs, \u201cThis drip, drip, drip of significant job losses continues to be troubling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the second time this year that CVS Health has notified Connecticut of layoffs affiliated with the Aetna facility in Hartford,\u201d the senators said. \u201cIn order to get its takeover of Aetna approved in 2018, CVS promised to maintain 5,291 jobs at Aetna for at least four years.
