Monica Quartermaine\u2019s (Leslie Charleson<\/a>) memorial on General Hospital<\/a> last month was well attended by many of the show\u2019s regular cast members<\/a> and characters. Curiously absent was Monica\u2019s sister Tracy\u2019s (Jane Elliot<\/a>) son, Dillon (played the longest as a young adult by Scott Clifton<\/a>, and last portrayed by Robert Palmer Watkins<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Fans speculated that Clifton could reprise Dillon for a day or two if an arrangement had been worked out between The Bold\u00a0and the Beautiful <\/a>(the soap on which Clifton plays Liam Spencer), his current employer, and GH. While hopping from one soap to another isn\u2019t commonplace, it does occur (e.g., Wally Kurth<\/a> doubles as Ned on GH and Justin on Days of Our Lives<\/a>).<\/p>\n

\u201cNobody reached out to me, and I didn\u2019t expect anybody to,\u201d Clifton explained to TV Insider on the 2025 Daytime Emmys<\/a> red carpet<\/a>. \u201cTo be fair, if they reached out to me, why wouldn\u2019t they also reach out to [to other past cast members], you know? There are so many actors you could really bring back to celebrate Monica.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clifton muses that it could have been a contractual issue, but such decisions are \u201cabove his pay grade,\u201d as the saying goes. \u201cI don\u2019t know the legalities of it \u2014 if you can be on contract and then be recurring on a different show?\u201d he mused.<\/p>\n

#MonicaQuartermaine<\/a>\u2018s death should be akin to Lila\u2019s & bring all of her loved ones\u2014on screen & off\u2014back to pay their respects with LENGTHY flashbacks from Tracy, Jason, Michael, Ned, Lois etc\u2014even ones that include former castmates (as done for Anna Lee) @GeneralHospital<\/a><\/p>\n

One thing is for certain, Clifton would have loved to have paid tribute to the late Charleson, given his fond memories of working with the late star. \u201cLeslie was the kind of character she played on TV if you strip away all the poor choices [that Monica made],\u201d Cliftons said. \u201cI remember the Quartermaines were sort of [mean] to Dillon, right? That was kind of the joke. Tracy had come back to town, and the reaction from the family was, \u2018Oh, God. Tracy\u2019s back.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cShe had brought her delinquent son [Dillon] with her,\u201d the actor recalled of his GH debut in 2003. \u00a0\u201cI remember the character of Monica was always being kindhearted [towards Dillon], and I don\u2019t know if it was written that way. I think that was Leslie; her and Stuart [Damon<\/a>, Alan] both. It was a unique situation that really did feel like a family.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the passage of time (Clifton\u2019s been gone from the show since 2007), he\u2019s come to appreciate on a deeper level what it means to have been on GH. \u201cI don\u2019t think about, like, \u2018legacy\u2019 a lot or my ego, really, but [when I do] there\u2019s a part of my ego that is really proud to have been a Quartermaine,\u201d he said. \u201cThere was a very special combination of people there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nowadays, Clifton is equally proud to be a member of the Spencer family on B&B. \u201cThe word \u2018Spencer\u2019 used to mean a different thing to me,\u201d he said with a smile, noting that there\u2019s a Spencer clan on GH, too!<\/p>\n
