The Tulane School of Architecture and Built Environment<\/a> is set to hold a symposium bringing together five women<\/a> who have made outstanding contributions to the architectural community. Titled \u201cInspirations \u2013 Five Practices<\/a>,\u201d and taking place on October 25th at the Richardson Memorial Hall in New Orleans, the symposium was organized by Tulane Emerita Professor\u00a0Carol McMichael Reese\u00a0in celebration of Reese\u2019s 26 years of service to the faculty. Reese is also the Founding Director of the Sustainable Urbanism Program at Tulane.<\/p>\n

The one-day symposium was influenced by Tulane’s 2025\/26 Lecture Series and Public Programs theme \u201cCommon Good,\u201d which is also the title and theme of the school’s upcoming issue of\u00a0The ReView\u00a0book. Holding a symposium or large-scale event to honor new Emeriti Professors is also a tradition at the school.<\/p>\n

According to the school, the event \u201cbrings together five women who have made outstanding contributions through their award-winning works of art, architecture, theory, and scholarship. Educating and inspiring thousands of university students, they have had a wide-ranging influence in the academy and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n

Throughout the day, each speaker will present perspectives on how they have worked to address issues in support of the common good. The event will be open to students, faculty, staff, and the public, with registration available on Tulane\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The five speakers are as follows:<\/p>\n

Deborah Berke, FAIA,\u00a0Edward P. Bass Dean and J.M. Hoppin Professor, Yale University School of Architecture<\/a>, and Founder, TenBerke Architects<\/a>Mary McLeod, Professor of Architecture, Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation<\/a>Amy Murphy, PhD,\u00a0Professor and Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs, University of Southern California School of Architecture<\/a>Joan Ockman,\u00a0Adjunct Professor, Weitzman School of Design, University of Pennsylvania<\/a>Diana Thater,\u00a0Artist\/Curator\/Writer\/Educator and Chair of Art, ArtCenter College of Design<\/a>\t\t\t\t\t
