\n\tPaul Schrader<\/a> is ready to embrace artificial intelligence in filmmaking, saying in a new interview that he has the \u201cperfect script to do all AI<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThe 79-year-old \u201cTaxi Driver\u201d writer and \u201cFirst Reformed\u201d director told Vanity Fair<\/a> that in his opinion, movies are \u201cgoing to be more and more AI,\u201d adding: \u201cI think we\u2019re only two years away from the first AI feature.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn fact, he continued: \u201cI was just on the phone with someone today about a script I had, and I said, \u2018You know, this would be a perfect script to do all AI.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAI has Hollywood buzzing at the moment with the news of Tilly Norwood, the first \u201cAI actress,\u201d<\/a> and even a fully AI-directed film<\/a>. When asked by Vanity Fair about his willingness to embrace the technology himself, Schrader said that \u201cit\u2019s just a tool.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhen you\u2019re an author, you have to describe someone\u2019s reaction. You use a code \u2014 you use a code of words, a certain number of letters, and so forth, and you express their facial reaction,\u201d he continued. \u201cAn actor has their own code. Well, now you\u2019re a pixelator, and you can create the face, and you can create the emotion on the face, and you can sculpt it the same way an author sculpts the reaction in a novel or a story.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSchrader also said that \u201cAI is taking over film coverage\u201d and he wouldn\u2019t be surprised if it was soon writing film reviews. \u201cAI does better coverage than the average coverage. And AI doesn\u2019t have to favor anybody,\u201d he said. \u201cOften, when you\u2019re doing coverage, you get a hint that the person who\u2019s paying you wants you to like this. You can\u2019t give that information to AI.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThis isn\u2019t the first time Schrader has supported the use of AI in the film business. Earlier this year, he posted on Facebook that he asked ChatGPT to generate plots<\/a> for movies by famous filmmakers, including himself, and was impressed by the results. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019M STUNNED,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI just asked chatgpt for \u2018an idea for Paul Schrader film.\u2019 Then Paul Thomas Anderson. Then Quentin Tarantino. Then Harmony Korine. Then Ingmar Bergman. Then Rossellini. Lang. Scorsese. Murnau. Capra. Ford. Speilberg [sic]. Lynch. Every idea chatgpt came up with (in a few seconds) was good. And original. And fleshed out. Why should writers sit around for months searching for a good idea when AI can provide one in seconds?\u201d<\/p>\n
