A24\u2019s comedy-horror movie Death of a Unicorn was released earlier this year with a very different composer attached than the one initially announced two years ago<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The film\u2019s theatrical release features a score by Dan Romer (Luca, Beasts of No Nation) and\u00a0Giousu\u00e8 Greco (\u201cWelcome to Wrexham,\u201d\u00a0D\u00ecdi), but a recent interview with the LA Times<\/a> reveals that A24 scrapped the completed Death of a Unicorn score by horror master John Carpenter,<\/a> \u00a0Cody Carpenter, and\u00a0Daniel Davies.<\/p>\n

While Carpenter himself doesn\u2019t elaborate on the details, the interview also notes that the filmmaker and composer owns the music rights and plans to release the score soon.<\/p>\n

Though details regarding the release of his scrapped Death of a Unicorn have yet to be revealed.<\/p>\n

Death of a Unicorn is a fantasy nightmare comedy from writer-director Alex Scharfman and producer\u00a0Ari Aster (Midsommar, Hereditary).<\/p>\n

A father and daughter accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en route to a weekend retreat, where his billionaire boss seeks to exploit the creature\u2019s miraculous curative properties.<\/p>\n

Paul Rudd, Jenna Ortega,\u00a0Will Poulter, T\u00e9a Leoni, and\u00a0Richard E. Grant star.\u00a0Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, Jessica Hynes, and\u00a0Stephen Park round out the cast.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a shame to learn that the project scrapped one of the most exciting parts about its announcement: a fresh Carpenter score. At least it sounds like we\u2019ll get to hear his vision for the project soon. The comedy-horror movie underperformed at the box office but quickly became a hit for streaming, now available on HBO Max.<\/p>\n
